I am the world's worst for exercise. I have a treadmill set up and some lovely new trainers, getting my trainers in contact with the treadmill is proving to be an issue for me. I don't like mornings and I am too tired after tea, excuses I know, I must get motivated.

    Hi all!
I have lost 6lb so far, the thing is, excersise!!!! I dont know where to start!
I am a single mum of a 2year old, and i work 16 hours a week so i dont really get anytime to go to the gym or and classes, and to be honest i havent got the self confidence to go anyway!
I was thinking about maybe getting an excersise dvd or something, i generally need to tone up, but the main area which needs sorting is my belly! god its flabby!
Does anyone have any tips or experience with excersise dvds?

Cheapest (and one of the best) form of exercise is walking. If you're pushing a buggy it's even better. Go out, walking fast enough to get yourself breathless (not gasping!) for 15 mins a day for 5 days a week to start. Work up to 30 mins a day for 6 days a week. While the weather is nice (huh!) it's easy and fun with a little one to show birds and flowers to. :j

Great news about the purse Ros!
Astonsmumy - I agree with the walking, its cheap and you can bring the kids with you! Well done on the 6lb!

I think it will be the kids meal at Mcdonalds of fish fingers, apple bites and water at Alton Towers tomorrow - there will be plenty of walking to burn it off!

    Hi all.

I'm fairly new to this site, and from just reading a few threads across the forum, this seems a good place to be!

I've been on a 'diet' for 4 weeks now, and I've lost quite a bit of weight, but I'm not sure it will achieve what I'm looking for.

The reason I've put diet in inverted commas is that I don't class it as a short term measure, it's more of a permanent life style adjustment.

I'm 21, male, 6 foot tall, and work 9-5 - in a typical office job.

Before I started my 'diet' 4 weeks ago, I weighed 13st 6lbs. I put my details in a BMI calculator, and I was saddened to see I was classed as overweight, albeit by not very much.

Ever since then, I've been determined to lose weight and sustain a manageable, healthy weight. I wouldn't even call myself fat, but I just have a layer of fat on my stomach, which won't really budge.

I now weigh 12st 4lbs, which is great, so I've lost 16lbs in 4 weeks. The good thing is, people have recognised that I've lost weight, which has given me a boost in confidence.

I'm a 34 inch waist, and 4 weeks ago, my trousers were really tight on me - now they're almost dropping off.

I've lost about 3 inches off my stomach, but it seems I'm not making any progress when I look at it, despite my trousers dropping off and people saying I've lost weight (without even telling them I've been on a 'diet')

It's been there for years, and ideally I would love a flat stomach, but I don't know whether I'll ever achieve that, despite the weight loss.

This is what I've done to lose weight thus far.

Breakfast (about 7:30) - A bowl of cereal (one in high fibre) such as Bran Flakes or All Bran, with a glass of Orange Juice

Break (About 11) - Some fruit - typically one banana, or one apple, or some grapes.

Lunch (about 1:30) - A Ham, Chicken on Turkey Sandwich (Low fat options, such as Bernard Matthews) with plenty of salad (Sweet lettuce, carrots, cucumbers etc) with some onion relish for additional taste - with granary bread. The sandwich is packed full of salad to ensure It fills me up, without the bloating.

Break (About 4:00) - Some more fruit - Again, one banana, apple or some grapes.

Dinner (about 6:30) - Plenty of salad/vegetables, with either a jacket potato/wholemeal pasta and some Bernard Matthews Ham, Turkey or chicken, with a little bit of low fat coleslaw.

Also, I drink over a litres worth of water at work, and then more at home during and after dinner.

In addition to this, I do a lot of walking which helps. It's 20 minutes to work, then 20 minutes back. I also walk in my lunch break (which is an hour long) so I've ensured I'm doing some excercise.

I'm more than happy to follow this, and I've had no desire to return to my previous eating patterns, whereby I would skip breakfast, eat a big baguette at lunch with plenty of mayo and crisps, skip break snacks, and then overeat at dinner because I didn't have anything to eat inbetween.

I still go out at the weekend, and I allow myself a day where I can eat rubbish (usually Saturday, combined with drinking alcohol) I might go out for a few drinks on Friday night after work, outside of that, I'm disciplined.

I lost 6lbs in my first week - 5lbs in my second week - 3lbs in my third week - 2lbs this week....

I'm worried that I won't lose any further weight quite soon, which will stop me losing my stomach fat.

I don't want to go to the gym because it's boring, so I want to lose weight through healthy eating.

Any tips and advice would be very welcome. :)

    Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Connected: you seem to be doing very nicely thank you, without any help from us. Your weight loss is very good but you should realise that it will not continue to drop off at that rate. If you continue with your new healthy lifestyle, you will inevitably get slimmer. However, in order to be fitter as well, you will need to get some exercise. Dieting alone will not 'spot-reduce'. If you can't stand gyms, what about getting out on a bike or even running in your local neighbourhood - at leat you'll get something to look at (so will the local girsl,:rotfl: ).
Keep going as you are, perhaps up the water intake to a minimum of 2 litres, and preferably 3 if you do go running or cycling. Well done so far. ;)

Well done Connected on your weight loss so far:j Your diet sounds pretty good and healthy, but although you are getting exercise walking, you need to do some specific exercises that target the stomach area.

You probably aren't overweight now at all, but the fat is still lingering where you don't want it to be :p

I understand your reluntance to go to the gym :D , doesn't appeal to me either, but how about doing stomach crunches and other abs exercise at home? You don't need any special equipment, but I would get a book or video to make sure you are doing it properly. My Pilates instructor told me that you can actually make your stomach bigger (rock hard, but bigger  ) by doing stomach crunches incorrectly. For example, you should always be making the effort (sitting up) on the out breath, and lowering to the floor on the in breath. Also, don't put your hands behind your head and jerk your neck as you sit up. A book or video will point you in the right direction.

Good luck and congratulations on getting so far on your own! Some effort on specific exercises will soon give you the body you want

    Thanks for the reply. :)

I've joined a gym twice, and gave up after 6 weeks! It's just boring, and very repetitive.

I do have a static bike at home, which I can use while watching TV - However, I live in a crowded house and it's difficult to go on it when other people are watching TV. :(

I do have a mini Trampoline as well, and I've heard that it supposed to be quite good - maybe that will help?

I also used to play football, but I quit playing last year. I'm planning to get back in to it, and training will start soon, about twice a week, so that will help aswell I'd imagine.

Playing footie will definitely help. Bouncing on a trampette is fun (unlike the gym). Whatever you do, it needs to be something you enjoy otherwise you won't keep it up. You can't be more than a pound or two over your ideal weight and I think your waist measurement is exactly right for health, so it's just a case of finding the right exercise to make the six-pack!!
    Good luck
