Well, it's true that 'misuse' of foods such as couscous, polenta and even chick-peas (ie. making it into cakes) is supposed to carry a syn value. However, I believe that as long as you're not making them every day and scoffing the lot yourself, it shouldn't make a lot of difference. Have a try, and if your weight loss slows down, maybe you will have to rethink.
I use about 5 tablespoons of couscous mixed with fruit and a Mullerlight every day for my breakfast and I'm managing to still lose weight!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Just found out today i didnt get a job i went for an interview for so good luck nadnad! lets hope you get more luck than me!!
I weighed myself at my mums today and have lost some weight, I think i have lost 4 or 5lbs this week, whilst I am chuffed I put on weight the last week or so and i have been using different scales so am not entirely sure! If I have lost 5lbs then I have lost a stone so i am pretty chuffed as i sure the scales can't all be out by a stone so it means that i am heading in the right direction!! Its been slow tho, about 10 weeks so far... Its a bit of a boost in some ways as i "only" wanted to lose 2 stone as my first goal so i know I am about half way there.... But also it does seem like a long slog and i would have thought a stone sounded a lot and would have meant i would have gone down a dress size at least? My clothes dont feel tight any more but dont think I could prise into the next size down yet....
hope everyone else is doing well, am enjoying a glass of wine after only eating quorn sausages all day long, i know after my OHs friends leave later (they arrived before I had time to make dinner) that I will be tempted to get a take-away, I usually have bean curd (its fried tho) with vegetables and boiled rice from the chinese takeaway, its got a light sauce on it that tastes like soy sauce but cant be sure... can anyone (especially consultant31!!) hazard a guess as to the syns in that??
keep it up everyone! If I actually HAVE lost a stone, imagine how much we must have lost between us! If everyone PM's me their total loss I could add it up and see how much it comes to (i.e. 2 average adults, a small car, etc etc)

Do you know why these type of recipes are counted as 'misuse'?? just wondering? Does that count for things like bananas that you can make into a cake?

Hi Rachie,
I think any fruit which is raw/whole is free, but once you start either bbqing, cooking or smoothie-ing (not real words, but hey it's late!) they get a syn value. Not sure if it is due to the change in its state or not, but I know I am not allowed limitless banana smoothies or I would just live on those
Well done on your weight loss :T , you'll get in to the next size clothes soon enough, that's a great motivation! Personally mine is a bikini on the beach without looking like I have welded the bottoms in to the folds in my stomach :rotfl:
Have a good one everyone! This board is very good for keeping me away from the biscuit tin at night!!
Welcome back Debrahs Angel!
:AMisguided maybe, but never really bad!! :A0 -

its my weigh in day tomorrow and I've been reasonably good all week so lets hope that I've lost some!... ah well we'll just have to see 14 hours to go - maybe i'll exercise like mad tonight and try to sweat the fat away!
Good luck - I'm sure you'll be fine!:T0 -
Quick recipe which is very low fat, would suit (I think ) Atkins people and should be good on most diets. Did not come from anyspecific one but I love it. Feel free to move it if it should not be posted here.
Chicken Yakitori (to serve 4)
4 boneless chicken breasts (1.25-1.5 lb in total) cut into bite-sized bits
4 fl oz light soy sauce or shoyu
4 fl oz sake (dry sherry works just as well)
4 level tblsp dark, soft brown sugar (or in my case, 4-5 sweeteners)
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1" piece fresh root ginger, peeled and crushed or very finely chopped.
Freshly ground black pepper
Put half of the shoyu, sake and sugar/sweeteners in a shallow dish with the garlic, ginger and pepper to taste. Whisk well until sugar dissolves. Add chicken bits and stir well to coat in marinade. Cover disah tightly and marinade in fridge for at least 4 hours. Turn chicken occasionally.
When ready to cook, remove chicken from marinade and thread onto skewers. Cook over BBQ or under grill for 10-15 minutes, turning frequently and brushing with the marinade.
While chicken is cooking put remaining shoyu, sake and sugar in small pan, add pepper to taste and simmer for a few minutes. Serve the yakitori hot witht the sauce to pour over it, accompanied by rice and stir fry veg (or whatever your chosen diet allows!)
I have also made in advance and frozen the chicken in the marinade, ready to defrost and cook when required. Really lovely:D0
