    Hi everybody,

I've made a decision after a few years of not concentrating on my weight, that I need to do something as I'm only getting bigger. I bought some digital scales a few days ago and was shocked to see that I'm weighing in at my heaviest. I don't want to be stick thin, but feel comfortable, be able to walk down the road without my belly and other parts jiggling about and to generally be fit. If I was go to by weight watchers or other standard diet suggestions I have over 10 stone to lose - right now I'd be happy to lose 3 stone as the last time I was at this weight must have been about when I was 19 (10 years ago).

I'd appreciate any suggestions or little things that I can do cos I find that when I concentrate on food too much - I become a little obsessed and then end up giving up after a while and putting on more weight. :o

    Hi Tesscha
I'm in an almost identical position to you... just started posting on this board and according to doctors charts should lose about 10 stone. In my earlier post I said I needed to lose more than 5 stone (true but rather vague) as just writing 10 stone seems an impossibility! However, I like the way that you have focused on the weight you know you felt good at... and for me anywhere between 3-5 stone lighter would feel EXCELLENT right now and certainly feels more achievable.

Like you, if I focus on what I can't eat too much I just get obsessed with food and this makes dieting even more difficult and less likely to succeed. What I am trying to do at the moment is try to think of really good, healthy things I can feed my body and soul with so that I don't feel deprived. Taking time to prepare and cook myself really yummy but healthy things (e.g. roasted peppers and aubergines with sweet potatoe and garlic) that I know are doing me good rather than relying on high cal fast food c**p that makes me feel awful and leaves me feeling hungry soon after I've eaten it! I am going to sit down with some recipe books, SW website etc tomorrow and plan a week's menus.

I've also read (in a woman's mag recently but can't remember which one)what sounds like a good idea for increasing exercise for people who are very overweight and unfit like me... we all know now we are supposed to walk 10,000 steps per day but that can seem unachievable to someone of my weight. This article suggested you get a pedometer and just do normal walking for a couple of days to get an idea of usual number of steps. Next day just try to increas this number by 1,000. Keep that up for the next few days and then increase by another 1,000. Do this over a period of a few weeks until you get to the desired 10,000. I think these gradual things built in to change one's lfe are the key rather than rushing into things we cannot possibly sustain long term!
Best of luck... it will be good to be weight loss friends!

WOW - After losing 3lbs last week I put on 0.5 this week, I am soooo chuffed as I was away for the weekend and was fattened up by relatives (birthday treats etc). Had 2 x fried brekkies, went out for a chinese and drank far too much alcohol but got straight back on it on Monday and damage limitation - only put on half a pound. Did have a bit of a 'blond' moment this week - made a lovely veg pasta bake - forgot to cook & put the pasta in - DOH!! Had to put the veg on the cooked pasta at the end.
Am I talking to myself or wot?!

:o:p Please come and play with me, I'm bored xx :T :p

Well done but just beware that it might catch up at next week's weigh in. Just be really careful this week and you should be ok. Good Luck and Happy Birthday for whenever it was

    Hi Nenen,

Thanks for the helpful information, I like the your way of thinking regarding feeding your body and soul. I confess that I can actually walk to work but have been hoping on the bus because I get so out of breath & I'm usually running late!! (and I'm so scared of dogs - I'll have to change my route). I know that increasing my walking will help most definitely - I've also started to eat more fruits, because I could go a few weeks without eating any.

So I've received 2 great tips that I'm going to incorporate for now - keeping a diary and increasing my walking!

    Thanks people.

Loops - cook all them lovely things that are good for you that no-one else likes, spoil yourself with a nice bubbly bath and make some time for you - you deserve it.

Loopylass30, a bit of pizza won't do you any harm, we all need comfort now and again.

As Nix says, pamper yourself and enjoy the time you have to yourself. Stay up late have long lie ins and enjoy it. My DD is off to my parents on Sunday, OH at work and oh how I'm looking forward to it. I find it far easier to eat well when there's nobody around as you can have what you like and not have to cater for their needs.

Take our advice, enjoy it, they'll soon be back

I've just read a make your own yoghurt thread. Can you make your own yoghurt using semi skimmed milk and semi skimmed milk powder and have this as part of your milk allowance on SW do you think?

I can't see why you can't have it as part of your allowance but surely it's easier to buy the yogurts from the supermarket? Also don't know if you can make it from ss milk/powder

Most shop bought v low fat yogurts are free food

Thanks cheekymole. I want to get into yoghurt making to try to cut down on cost as kids eat loads, hence the question
