Lois - have you tried the really dark bitter chocolate. Some people in class swear that if they have only a little piece, it takes 'the need' away.

Hi Cats - thanks, yes I find you need less dark chocolate to get the same hit. I keep telling myself if I can go without for two weeks, the cravings will go away - I've done it before and it does work (she says to herself convincingly!!).

Katyk, there's no need at all to be ashamed at what the scales say - we're all here for the same reason. I smiled at your comment about weighing the same as your skinny son - I could do with scales like those, lol.
While exercise is recommended, there's no need at all to pay for it. One of the best exercises there is, is walking and you don't need expensive equipment to do it, maybe you could borrow someone's dog!!
Now the weather is getting better (I hope) it's easy to walk more - get off the bus a couple of stops away from your destination, walk to the shop instead of getting the car out (specially if you don't want much shopping, the extra weight on the way home burns extra calories). Even if you have to use the car, park as far from the shop door as you can - every little helps. Start out doing 10-15 minutes a day (brisk walking) for 3 days a week and work up to 30 minutes on 5 days a week. It can amount to a weight loss of up to 1½ stones a year, without dieting!

Thanks consultant31, and also everyone else who has replied. It really can make a difference being part of a 'group'.

Ref hubby - no he doesn't tend to go out walking (his sport is cricket) and no he never cooks. However I will just have to go for it and not even mention at first. Once weight starts coming off hopefully he will be a little less 'here-we-go-again-ish'. Good man really - just has heard it all so many times before.
Ref my motivation, nothing in particular. No holidays / weddings / birthdays etc coming up. Just generally fed up looking in the mirror and feeling like I need to breathe in.:rotfl:

As regards walking more that is one area I am quite good in really - mainly because I don't drive:rotfl: :A . Work is about 1.5-2 miles away and I try to walk as often as I can. Would cost £1.60 each way in bus fares (£16/week) and I rebelled in mid March. Now I put aside £16 on Monday and whatever is left in that we purse on Friday represents the amount I have saved by walking. This then goes on an Asda saving card with xmas in mind. Up to £121.00 now in about 9 or 10 weeks. :j Only managed to put the whole £16 in once but have never 'fed' it less than £10. :D Added to that I walk to shops, Boys Brigade, Brownies etc (all less that 1 mile away but still)

Trouble is my body is used to me walking a lot so I need to up that with something else to kickstart my metabolism. Jogging etc ain't on - my pelvic floor would hit the floor and I would need to wear a nappy:rotfl: :rotfl:

Have decided not to go back to RC but to try SW diet at home. Will weigh in here once a week and try to fit in any exercise I can. The copy of SW I have is about 10 years old though and contacins no recipes just lists of food and their value. Is it worth signing up just for a couple of weeks to get an updated diet? Or has it not really changed that much?

WELL DONE to all those who have lost so much already. Having a good read through all this thread has helped motivation no end!

    Hi Guys.

I love this website - I can lose my debt and my weight all in one easy stop!!!

I've been reading the threads for ages, but today I wanted to post because I'm feeling really good about myself this week. You see, all my life I've been FAT, and none of the doctors would take me seriously and help me lose weight, they all just told me not to eat crisps - (which i never have anyway!) but in March, I went to a new doctor, and she gave me these pills called Xenical (Orlistat). I still have to work hard to keep a low fat diet, but it has meant that I have lost a steady 1 pound + a week ever since I started. As of this Sunday, I have lost a STONE.

I'm so so so proud. I know to a lot of people taking pills might seem like cheating, but I am seriously obese, not just chubby, and this has changed my life so much already. I'm over the moon today because my boyfriend told me this morning how much thinner I look - not that he minds either way but dammit it feels great!!

I wanted to say thanks to all you guys - it's so good to have a place of support that doesn't charge you to go each week!!!!

What a lovely uplifting post. I don't really see that it matters HOW you lose the weight so long as you're still keeping to a healthy diet. I'm really pleased for you, keep it up!

Katyk, if you walk a lot already (and you obviously do) then rather than looking for something else altogether, what about upping the speed you walk at? You should be a bit out of breath but not gasping
Also, your book that's 10 years old won't really do, I'm afraid. The plan has changed a lot in that time - the emphasis now is away from processed food, so tins of corned beef and macaroni cheese (which used to be free) are now synned. There are other things, but they slip my mind at the mo (old age, lol).
Have a look on eBay, you'll find lots of starter packs on there - but don't be ripped off!.. I would say that if they go for over a tenner, it'd be cheaper to join a class, which is normally between £9 and £10.

Will be changing on Monday to £10 to join and first week free. Weekly fee thereafter is £4.25 ;)
Also starting on Monday is the Countdown Plus which saves money over a 5 or 10 week period.
