Hi Richard - you will probably find you are in the minority as a man at a SW class, however SW consultants from my experience are very good at making everyone feel welcome, male or female, and I don't think you'll feel out of place. I think you'll like SW too - my husband did! He loved the fact that you could fill your plate up with meat on a red day, or with pasta, rice or potatoes on a green day. He lost 2.5 stone on it, and it didn't take him very long.

Still unsure if I will go back to RC group or not. Hubby not much support on it - has seen me start then give up too often to have any faith left in me to stick to it so I think he just sees it as a waste of money. Have not even mentioned it this time round. May just try on my own for a while and rely on all the friendly voices here.
Right, bought large quantity of grapes tday so off to wash and freeze them in preparation. If people don't know already this is a really super way of eating grapes - like lots of wee grape flavoured ice lollies. It takes you much much longer to eat a small bowl and I have yet to meet the child who does not like them (even the "yeugh -it's fruit" brigade). Also quite good freezing chunks of banana - although I admit they are even nicer dipped in melted chocolate once frozen......0 -

Yes add me to the list please! My class is a Tuesday night so I'll pos once I'm home.
Curves costs £29.00 a month. there is also a joining fee...mine was discounted as it was a new club. I paid £39.00 after the 66% discount. Now I can't get my head round that grossing up calculation at the moment!I think it must be around £59.00 !

SW start 08/01/14 4/21lbs (1st target) :j0 -
Yahoo! :j ...had my wine already so pardon the excitement but I cant help myself - 6.5lbs off. After being so low last week
- it was so great having your support. It was a 'star' week but even so - I am down to the next stone and feel great. the SW club were so lovely.
Richard - go for it. I have always seen only happy men at SW- I even got my bf to the door once but he couldn't go through it; its hard even for the ladies but most of us never look back (even if we have moments where we wonder if we are doing it right).
Thanks again for the words of support earlier this week.:T :A

I suppose my questions are:
- If i go to classes will i stand out as a youngish bloke and look stupid, no offense but is it just for women?
- Have any men had any success on the SW or does something like Atkins work better?
Any advice would be great, thanks,
Richard
Hi Richard,
Have you ever tried looking for a men only class? Our local weight watchers do one once a week I know there's also a website you might be interested in called fatmanslim.com. I think it's affiliated with the Rosemary Conley plan.
Of course there's nothing stopping you following the sw plan with your partner at home. I think any healthy eating plan will work for you so long as you commit to it. Small changes are easier to stick too in the long run.
Good luck.

I know what you mean katyk.... my hubby has been brilliant supporting me trying to lose weight over the past few years but he gets really fed up when I give in. Perhaps it's not that he doesn't have much faith in you, but that he hates to see you get disappointed.:( Maybe if you ask him for some positive support... as in not commenting when you do slip (I hate that!) or going out for the odd walk with you. .:T .. I mean, how many times do people try to quit smoking before they succeed? it's not a waste of money if it's getting you on the road to being healthy. ... my OH says, the real waste of money is buying "Fat" clothes that won't fit you for very long once you start to succeed.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
Katyk - how motivated do you feel about dieting right now? Do you have any major social occasions coming up that might knock you off the diet? Is you OH willing to help cook and eat healthy food - i think this is one of the reasons why i'm doing so well with my diet at the moment!
Aerobics classes at my local sports centre cost around £5. I just see RC as an aerobics class with a weigh-in and people all with similar goals!
rm-lewis - you may be in the minority gender-wise at a class but you'll already know someone (the gf) and you have the same ambition as everyone else in the class - to lose weight. I can't say it'll be easy but it's gotta be worth it!
good luck all - well done on some great losses this week.0 -

WOW! What an excellent result - well done! :T :T Want to sign up for the 2 pound club?
I was feeling a bit down this morning but this board really helps - other people's successes are so motivating.
I really must stop weighing myself so often, I got on the scales this morning and I'd regained the pound I'd lost last week. OH was really positive and said I'd be ok by Monday, and I should be, I haven't had chocolate for three days, I've walked to work every day this week (even in the rain this morning) and I'm doing the Special K challenge - just for a few days, I couldn't bear it for a fortnight!
I can't get rid of the scales altogether - unless I sign up for a weigh in class - so maybe I should get OH to hide the scales and only bring them out on Mondays!!!
Have a good day everyone

Richard - just thought of something that might encourage you to sign up for SW... men often have huge weight losses in their first week of doing SW, there was one man that went to the class I went to who lost A STONE in a week!!
