    JenIttles,

I did follow your route before and lost over 3 stone. I went to RC classes for the exercise but followed a low gi plan. I had to stop going because I was expecting and when I went to go back, the classes had wound up because of low attendance.

I have to admit I miss the exercise. I've taken up yoga instead and find I'm using muscles I forgot I had. I agree about the diet thing too. Any diet will work, if you have the motivation and commitment. Which we all do.
Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.
Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.

Tryingtobegood - how was curves? I've looked into them (mostly on a website and looking at reviews) as a way to avoid going to a 'real' gym which i hate but they seem just as hard to like! Let me know how it goes.
    Hi JenIttles,
I am not at all keen on any type of exercise, but I so far I'm quite enjoying:eek: the circuit style routine of Curves. Basically it takes 30 mins to complete 3 circuits but you're only on each type of equipment for 30 seconds then you move onto the next one. Now that seems really short but when you're doing the lifty uppy things ( I'm not into all the technical terms yet) 30 seconds is really enough for me! BUT the 30 mins fly by. I'm always clock watching when exercising but the Curves system doesn't give you time to do that.
I've only been twice (I joined 2 days ago!) and I'm going to go tonight after work so long may this positive attitude continue.

    Hi everyone

Well done Lydia - 5lbs, that's excellent! I'll update the results list.

Tryingtobegood - would you like to join the 2 pound club? You sound like an idea candidate, with something to aim for.

I keep getting confused when people say 'can I join', whether they mean the thread, or the 2 pound weight loss club!

Rosemary Conley now does a GI diet, which I'm following although not attending classes. I'm not having great success so far, and I definitely think I need to do more exercise, so maybe going to an RC class would help.

I was very successful in losing weight with Slimming World - I lost 6.5 stone in 18 months, and for 11 months of that time I was unemployed and started following quite a rigid exercise programme, cycling about five miles, three or four times a week and doing 200 ab crunches every day. I was also going through quite a stressful time as I was caring for my terminally ill father until his death and then dealing with his estate as I was the executor to his will.

The exercise was my way of de-stressing, and I thought I was losing weight because of what was going on in my life, but I now realise it must have been the exercise that made the difference. Being back in full time work means it isn't so easy to find time to exercise - I walk to work whenever I can, which takes me about 15 mins each way, but as I've been doing that for a while I think I need to introduce something more strenuous.

I love aerobics, and used to be addicted to step, but now I suffer from arthritic knees which prevents me doing it. I do like cycling, but I'm a fairweather cyclist so it isn't always possible to go out for a ride in the evenings and weekends, and I find using an exercise bike at the gym really boring.

Maybe I'll dust off some of the exercise videos that are languishing on a shelf somewhere!

Lois - how about swimming? My boyf has dodgy knees but he quite often comes swimming with me. I find doing lengths quite boring but enjoy floating/splashing about very relaxing so I treat myself to 5 minutes of floating after 10 mins of lengths!

Trytobegood - curves sounds pretty good and there's one that's quite local to me. I may enquire as to giving it a trial run for a month! How much does it cost though, if you don't mind me asking...

    Hi Lois!

Can I join in the 2lb club too please? I am not even sure what I weigh and will need to go weigh myself before letting the shameful truth out - scales died about 2 months ago (!*!) and I found I suddenly weighed the same as my ultra-skinny 11 year old son:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I would love to think I had lost about 10 stone in about 3 days but somehow I think it unlikely:rolleyes:

I am currently somewhere around 15st or just over and am only 5'5" tall so it ain't good. Have decided I may have to go back to Rosemary Conley despite really objecting to the £££. At least with them you get the exercise class.

I have a medical condition called Lichen Sclerosis which apparently puts me into a higher risk group for heart disease, diabetes, etc. Needless to say being 5-5.5 stone overweight does not exactly reduce my chances here. Unfortunately they cannot cure the LS but I can try to do something about the weight. I have a daughter who keeps nagging cos she's worried about me (and she knows nothing of the LS) so I have decided it is time to take the bull by the horns.

To join the 2lb club do I just have to post my weight once known on here or what?

MUST stick to it this time - have failed at least once a week for the last few years!!

Wow Lois, 6.5 stone in 18 months is a tremendous achievement especially under those circumstances. I wouldn't mind seeing your before and after pics. Well done!:A

I have a bad back which was caused by the combination of a birth defect and the Omagh bomb so I can understand about your arthritic knees. I can highly recommend yoga as a way of destressing and also building up the muscles around your injured areas to help support them. I go to yoga once a week and I feel it if I miss a week (end up not being able to move - ) I know it's a very gentle form of toning and excercise but it really does work.

Hi Katyk - welcome to the club. :) I'll update the results list once a week and post the new one on Mondays, so just let us know how much you've lost each week and I'll add it on.

Sorry to hear about the LS - health is the thing that motivates me to lose weight the most, closely followed by looking better in clothes!

Thanks dellybelly - I surprised myself at the achievement, but unfortunately I've let 2.5 stone creep back on again, so the after pictures and the new wardrobe I got to buy are the goals I'm aiming to get back to! Like the yoga idea too - I used to go to a class regularly and found it so relaxing.
    how about swimming?

That's a good idea Jenittel - I do like swimming - I'm going to check out local pools this weekend.

    Hi all,
I am a 25 year old man and have got to the stage where i need to do something about my weight, I am 6.2 but now weigh in at 17 stone. The girlfriend is also overweight and she has mentioned going to SW classes and following it.

    I suppose my questions are:
    - If i go to classes will i stand out as a youngish bloke and look stupid, no offense but is it just for women?
    - Have any men had any success on the SW or does something like Atkins work better?

Any advice would be great, thanks,
    Richard
