Mortgage-free Glee! Hung up my suit! Xmas Saver!
The things that make me choose elsewhere are:

Feedback %, Feedback comments, DSR scores (if someone has negative feedback I read to see if I think it seems fair).
    Excessive p&p (hidden p&p costs).
Inadequate description (I want to know the condition, New/Used, The Region if it's a DVD, etc).
Stock photograph, too small a photograph, photograph the seller hasn't bothered to flip the right way up before posting, No photograph.
    T&C's that don't match eBay’s rules.
Not enough Information, I won't buy. Too much information and I can't be bothered to scroll. Too busy a page and I can't be bothered to trawl through to find the important info.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Sellers who don't answer questions, or do it either after the auction ends or so close to it ending you don't get it in time.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    Great forum discssion!

The "buy now before it's too late!" doesnt bother me, I just ignore it. People have different ways of selling... Phrases like this dont compel me to buy, but dont annoy me.

High postage also doesnt annoy me - I just build it into the total cost when deciding to bid or not.

T&C's are a bit annoying and may put me off, and poor pictures usually definately do. That said, I have bought a cheap car with a view of selling on - they only had one photo, and 2 lines of desciption. They did however answer all my questions, and had the item not been as they described in the answers, I would have walked away.

Poor spelling and grammer (and text/gangster speek!) in the body of the description does annoy me, and can put me off - however poor spelling in the subject line can be useful sometimes when searching for bargains - as other people will not find them, and therefore less bids made!

Poor feedback can put me off sometimes - but not necessarily - it does require some research to make a decision on that. Like someone previously has said, this is a percentage of the number of transactions, so someone who doesnt use ebay too much may have made one mistake, received one negative feedback, and really affected their feedback score. Always investigate.

I take it you are objecting to a seller imposing P&P charges in a category where free P&P is mandatory? Easy, just hit the "Report Item" and choose the "List policy offences --> Circumvention of Ebay fees --> Excessive P&P" category. You can report up to 10 items so be sure to include the sellers other items if they are doing the same. Put a couple in your watch list and get the smug "up yours" feeling when they disappear as eBay pulls the listing but still charges the seller their fees

Actually - this is not fair on the seller, and is something that really annoys me about Ebay. I have been selling toner cartridges, which cost about £7 to get delievered by Royal Mail. I have the starting price at 99p, and happy to see it go for whatever, however I will not deliver this for free!!! I am forced to choose courier service, in order to get round the "free postage". Similarly, these dvd's are the same, though to a lesser extent. If they only make 50p at auction, and postage is £2, they are £1.50 down, if they offer free postage, as per Ebay rules.

With my item, I have spoken with Ebay, and they have suggested that I choose courier. It is just another way for Ebay to make more money out of you, as if you build in the cost of the postage into the starting price for the item, they are charging you a % for this!

    !

If you want to use ebay you have to list via the rules. Just add the postage price to your start price what the big problem!?

If you choose courier service and are still using RM you can still get reported

As I believe I did state in my post, I did call Ebay, and they advised me I could choose courier and put the amount in the description.

The problem with just adding the postage price to the start price is that Ebay are charging you a % for postage - why should they make money on that. Isnt it bad enough tht they force you to use paypal - and charge you for that as well.. therefore getting hit twice. (I do see the advantages to using Paypal, but dont like being forced to use them, just because it's now part of ebay)

It is buyer's responsibilty to read through the description, and with choosing courier, they will be aware that there is a charge for postage. I dont think many buyers really care HOW they get their item - as long as they receive it safely.

    .

Yes but you have to actually use a courier. Have alook at the ebay community boards quite a few people have fallen foul of this

Also a lot of the ebay staff dont seem to know the rules they have given this sort of advice and then people have fallen foul of the rules. There is a good reason that everyone is not doing what you are doing.

This is absolute rubbish! E-Bay does not charge a percentage on postage just a percentage on the end price of the auction or buy it now.

This is why you get a lot of e-bayers escalating their postage prices to make up for a shortfall in the sale price and get away with paying fees.

I am not one of e-bays biggest fans because at the end of the day the only person winning is e-bay/paypal!

I think the point was though that in free p&p categories, you have to raise the item price to cover postage, and therefore ebay is taking a percentage of the postage cost too.
