Shingles must be doing the rounds in our neck of the woods, that's the 4th case I've heard of in the last 24 hours. Hope your DS is soon feeling better.

Can you use your voucher on the taster facial at a later date or have all those appointments gone also?

I managed to book a facial at Durham for next week.
I really need a haircut and have put it off to use the voucher...am just gutted I now have to pay for it:rotfl:
if I'd had more notice you could have had my appointment.

Aww thanks but I only heard about the offer just after DD and I had both had our (long overdue) haircuts the week before so didn't bother buying a NOTW.

Glad you got in for the facial :D

This thread has been brought to my attention, and there seem to have been a number of misunderstandings. Let me clear them up.

    1. WHY HAVE MSE REMOVED THE OFFER DETAILS FROMTHE EMAIL??

We haven't they're still in the archive of the email and it hasn't been touched http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips/24-06-09

    2. We have removed most of the information from the deals note.

This was done on my personal specific instructions.

The Deals notes (aka http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-free-beauty-deals) are only for CURRENTLY AVAILABLE offers, once it is no longer possible to get the deals we take them out. As this was only in a newspaper one sunday, after that (on the tues i think when we update it) it came out.

Otherwise people get upset and complain as if its In there they assume it to be available.

    3. Why is there still some information in there.

Sadly while the voucher was meant to be in all British editions of fabulous, due to Michael Jackson's death some of those editions were replaced by an Irish edition because of short supply.

But Irish editions did not have the voucher in them, which meant some people who had seen it in the weekly e-mail and therefore bought it didnt get a voucher. So we got in touch with the News of the world and asked what it would do, and it said it people sent in the front of the magazine they would make sure they got a voucher.

Obviosuly it was important to communicate that to people, so we put it in the following weeks e-mail, and linked to the deals note further information.
Yet I took the decision, there was no need to have the prior list of salons in their, as from copious amounts of prior experience it would only mean that many people misunderstood and thought you would be able to do still get the voucher even if you haven't bought the News of the world.

And that frankly is it - nothing more. Once people have got the voucher it is pretty easy to find the Saks stores - so we really didnt see the point.

    4. What did the info say?

For those wondering here is the text we originally had.

"Free Saks haircut or taster facial worth £35
    Newspaper-based offer

Pick up a copy of News of the World this Sun 28 June (£1) and in its glossy Fabulous magazine you'll find a voucher entitling you to a free haircut or taster facial at posh beauty salon Saks before 26 July.

To book, check if your local salon is participating in the list below and then contact it directly (find the number online at Saks). You must quote the offer '5 Steps To Fabulous' when you call to book as it's only valid with certain stylists on certain days.

The haircut is a normal, full cut and blow dry worth on avg. £35. The facial lasts 30-45 minutes and is worth around £30. Make sure you take the coupon with you on the day to get your discount.

Participating Salons: West Bridgeford, Chester-le-street, Whitley Bay, Basildon DLC, Milton Keynes, Warrington, Barnard Castle, Hull, Belfast, Guildford, Heston, Sheffield, Solihull Cranmore, Cheshire Oaks, Derby DLC, Nottingham DLC, Newark, Halifax H&B, Bristol DLC, Epsom DLC, Maidstone, Nottingham City, Lincoln, Kingshill, Southend High Street, Wimbledon, Guisborough, Redcar, Leeds DL H&B, Sunderland, Brighton H&B, Glasgow, Harrogate, Cheadle, S!!!!horpe, Scotch Corner H&B, Skipton, South Shields, St Albans, St Neots, Stevenage H&B, Stokesley, Welwyn Garden City, Wetherby, Workington, Berwick, Bishop Auckland, Cardiff, Darlington, Derby, Durham, Fulham, Hammersmith, Hexham, Ilkley, Kingston Upon Thames, Liverpool - Speke, Morpeth, Newcastle, Newcastle Gosforth H&B, Newcastle South Gosforth - hair Beauty, Northallerton, Norwich, Chester, Great Yarmouth, Bolton DLC, Leeds HS, Necastle Jesmond, Portsmouth, Wothing HS, Worthing David Lloyd Club, Yarm, York, Ripon, Bolton , Scarborough, Ashton, Oldham, Southend DL, Manchester Trafford"

    5. What about people who couldn't get appointments?

That is very frustrating, though par for the course with these types of offers. Certainly though its worth complaining to the news of the world if you feel hard done by.

The key is there is always a limitation on appointments, but if the salon seems to have deliberately made it practically impossible to utilise the voucher then that is an issue.

Yeah, but the issue is that they did not have a free haircut to give every reader and the free apppintments were given out before the voucher came out. If you did not have access to the internet to get the Saks details or if you did not get the weekly tips email it means you had no chance of getting a free haircut anyway as the appointments had all been given away before the offer was even released to the public.

Had you been on holiday as I was would you have been looking at the internet or your weekly money tips email? No, and because I was on holiday I did not get a free haircut as they gave the appointments away before the mag came out with the details on. And for this reason I do think it unfair that they gave the appointments away before the voucher and article with the offer on was released.

Well seeing as you were on holiday at the time this offer came about in the weekly tips email and you were unable to check your email, thats just tough luck and you should let it go! Nowhere does it say that Saks weren't allowed to book appointments prior to the voucher being published. It is annoying that some people weren't able to get appointments, but obviously some salons have less availability than others and if they were to provide a haircut to all readers they would be taking appointments for the next 10 years!!!

    Hi there,

We removed the full details of the SAKS offer from the Beauty Deals page as it was no longer available to everybody, only those who had purchased the newspaper.

Deborah, that can not be the case,as the offer was always only available to those who purchased the paper,so I fail to understand what the reason could be.

Holly...perhaps MSE Deborah means it was 'no longer available' as the paper was no longer on sale?

I really am surprised that MSE have even replied to your emails, posts all across the forum etc. They do not have to give a reason for any actions they take. They provide a free service to you the member. I think it was highly obvious why they removed the information.

As for complaining to the paper or SAKS for 'loss of a bargain'

The voucher clearly states 'subject to availibility'

How posters can say that means nothing is beyond me, the terms do mean something, quite often coupon terms are ignored by retailers, but that does not change their validity!

I think the only thing complaints to SAKS in the manner that has been suggested on this thread, will achieve, is for SAKS to never do such an offer again. If you wish to 'receive' something for your £1 then the best you can hope for is writing SAKS a non whiney letter, stating your dissapointment, not your fury and they may possibly give you one of their discount vouchers they give customers of theirs.

I agree that SAKS could have handled the promotion better, including not letting bookings being made before the paper was printed, but I can not for the life of me understand why some members of MSE can not see that SAKS never thought there would be such an uptake of the offer from the papers READERS. Nor why they are still even thinking about the offer they missed out on...

I'm sure i'm not the only member to have more important things to worry about

Broclo,I don't know what you are talking about,I haven't complained to the paper,or saks about loss of a bargain...? I have already stated I have an appointment!!

What manner has been suggested to complain on this thread,I have searched it and can see perhaps one?

If one thing is acheived it will be that Saks brief all their staff next time, that the offer is actually on,that it IS for existing customers, its not just buy one get one free etc. People were turned away for the wrong reasons-seemingly missing an appointment when there were still some available because of poor briefing..?

    *******
If The offer details in the main have not been removed (apart from the telephone number link),I apologize unreservedly, but I seemed to think it had.Perhaps I didn't scan down far enough on the updated version:eek::o

Holly, sorry that message was not overly clear, I do appologise. I just was addressing you with "Holly...perhaps MSE Deborah means it was 'no longer available' as the paper was no longer on sale?" The rest of the post was in directed to other posters in general :o

There have been suggestions of complaints though. I just think that if people have issues they should tackle them in a different manner and they will then get a more positive outcome

    Thanks Martin.

Although I was able to book an appointment (just in time), I do think this offer has been mis-advertised on both sides.
News of the world should not have said "Free for every reader", because this has not been the case, and Saks for not supplying enough appointments, and a longer time scale to book.
