  • This is such a good idea, I'm going to give it a go! I don't think I could do it with CD's on a large scale but I'm going to go through my collection with OH this weekend - I think there will be a few duplicates I can sell.

As for books - I've a couple of bags I was about to take to the charity shop, so I think there might be a change of plan!

Just a question..........how do people find it cheapest to package the books?? I have a few jiffy bags I can reuse. Maybe then I'll get a roll of bubble wrap, use normal envelopes? I know it must only be a matter of saving a few pence but I guess it would count if you sold quite a few.

I've bought some bubble wrap from the £ shop and envelopes from there too. I think it will make a saving - also going to save all the jiffy bags I'm sent!

Hey, I just wanted to clarify. The 17.5% which Amazon charge, I don't quite understand it - because I sold a book for 40p and the 'VAT' charge was 18p, and I sold a book for 70p, and the 'VAT' charge was 19p. So maybe there is a minimum charge. Doesn't really change things much but might have an impact on selling books very cheap. Just thought I should let you know!

I haven't sold a 1p book yet so don't know what the 'VAT' on that would be.

And thanks to the person who recommended Green Metropolis - I listed a few books on there last night, that seems like a really good site.
  • I know this probally isn't the right place but does anyone know a good place to sell off CD singles - I have thousands of them

I sold another item on Amazon today - a CD this time and there were listings for singles too. Perhaps you could try there?

Thanks to all for your inspiring posts!

I've just registered as as seller and listed a pile of stuff. All CDs and a couple of books.

If it all sells (ever optimistic) I should make about £65. :T

I've kept it to under 30 items though as I don't want to go 'professional' but as soon as something sells I'll list something else!

My son's still got GCSE revision guides from last year and it would be a good time to sell them too.

    My new career lol

vyvyan - you can sell more than 30 things a month, you don't have to go Pro... They just say that you should only consider being a Pro-merchant if you sell 30 or more a month.

Does everyone just list a few pence below the cheapest book currently on offer? e.g. I'm looking at listing my first book, and the cheapest "used" one is £4.99. Should I list mine at £4.95?

    Thank you!

Yeh I would. I usually try and get the lowest price, unless the cheapest ones are only 'acceptable' and my copy is nearly new. I think that depending on the type of book, people will generally want just the cheapest one so you'll probably do better that way. There is also a time/price balance - would you rather sell it tomorrow for £4.95 or sell it in 3 months at £7? I usually want the money ASAP! (Make sure your price will cover postage.)
