I recommend it too, I've only sold one book on Amazon so far, I got £7 for it and I was going to put it on Ebay for £1.99, so glad I didn't! None of my books will be going on Ebay now, I will be trying Amazon, then Green Metropolis for books that won't go on Amazon and then Read it, Swap it for books I can't sell!

The only gripe I have is that it took over 2 weeks from the person purchasing the book to Amazon transferring the money into my account... is this the normal timescale?

Amazon do charge fees - BUT only when you actually sell the book. If it doesn't sell, no charge. The fees are (for books):

    86p per item 'closing fee'
17.5% of the item's sale price

Remember that Amazon give you £2.75 as a postage credit, this is how people are able to sell books for 1p. If the postage is not too much you have still made some cash.

Have a look on the Amazon site, and look at the Marketplace seller FAQs.

Callisto - 14 days is normal the first time you sell a book. After the first 14 day cycle, payments continue to be 'swept' into your account every 14 days. But after the first cycle, you can 'request' a payment cycle whenever you want.

I think 14 days is fair, as it gives peace of mind on both sides. If it was much over 2 weeks for you that is unusual but hopefully you'll get it quicker next time.

I just saw that I have my first feedback rating - 5/5, hoorah. (After selling about 10 books over the years - buyers can be so lazy!)

I have also been deliberating whether to sell on amazon or stick with the few pounds I make on Ebay; this thread has encouraged me to sell on amazon, thanks everyone!! :T

17.5% though?!? is it REALLY better than ebay, when you only get charged 4% on there?

But books actually sell on amazon and tend to go for higher prices than on ebay. So even though they're taking a higher percentage, you're ending up with more.

I just like the fact that they don't charge for listing and that the listing will stay up for 3 months if necessary, it's less faffing around.

    Hi,

I've been reading the threads on this. I've got a load of books at home I was going to get rid of but if I can see them on amazon I will. Can anyone tell me if I need to post a picture of the books on amazon or is a general discription good enough?

    Cheers,

You don't need a picture - most books will already have one in their product description (added by Amazon). Some out of print don't, but people looking for out of print books will know what they are looking for.

You just have to decide if the book is 'like new', 'very good', 'good', 'acceptable' (there is guidance on what these terms mean) and then you can add a line or so saying things like "spine creased, some pages folded..." etc. Lots of people don't say these things but I like to as it means they can't come back and say you misled them. (Though I find buyers and sellers at the Marketplace to be a very nice honest bunch in my experience!).
