MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Should Cilla give Graham a quick reminder for the date cash?

  • Tryfive has it pretty much bang on :-)

I think what I would do in this situation is speak to the friend. If he's the type that would do it to get a cheap date, just leave it, and tell the friend to go jump as well. If a friend's set you up with someone who's likely to pull that trick then they're no friend! However if the friend felt it was genuine, I'd mull it over as to whether the guy's worth a second date. If I wasn't that bothered about him, I'd let him know politely - nothing worse than being kept hanging on. Plus I'd feel rude phoning someone and saying something along the lines of "Hi there, no I don't want to go on another date, but can I have my £20 back?". If I thought he was worth another try, then give it a go. Anyone can forget their wallet on a date.

If he's texted her since regarding a second date, it's obvious he's interested. If a guy was interested in me, but I wasn't too interested in him, then I certainly wouldn't lead him on for the sake of £20. I know £20 is a lot, I'm not wealthy as it is, but I'd certainly feel a whole lot cheaper if I went on a second date to either get my money back, or get even by getting him to pay for it all. Going on another date, running up a bill on expensive wine and food, just to get your own back is pretty low in my book.
  • Plus, I don't understand why most people on here (looking by the usernames I'm guessing them to be fellow womenfolk) are jumping to the assumption that he's a conman. I know it does happen, but if it's been set up through a friend then it's more likely to be a genuine mistake than a con. Especially if his half of the bill was only £20. I'd like to think a conman would try for a little more ;) But seriously, how would you know the guy's a cheapskate, given that you know nothing more about him than he said he had forgotten his wallet?

To me, the main point is that she wasn't that keen on him. Presumably if he didn't owe her the money she wouldn't even be considering a second date.

In that case, I wouldn't bother - if I had to sit through a meal with someone I don't like or who is not my type, just to get £20 back, frankly I'd think it was worth the £20 to get out of it!

IF he is genuine he will send the money back through her friend.

If not, that's just one of those things.... I'd mention it to the friend, but I wouldn't fall out about it.

Don't get mad - get even. Go on another dinner date but meet at the restaurant. Suggest champagne would be lovely. If this is not forthcoming ask to choose the wine, because some can give you a headache, and choose the costliest bottle. Order the most expensive food, all three courses, plus coffee and the tipple of your choice. All through dinner act as though he's the best thing since sliced bread and behave in such a way that he's certain tonight's the night. Just as the bill arrives, excuse yourself for a comfort rest and get to your car as quick as you can and go home alone. SORTED ---SIMPLES!

And of course get done for drink driving on the way home - :T great advice!
Life is too short to drink bad wine!
