I am wondering whether to get someone to come and paint my hallway but I think its going to cost me about £500 to do it.

I had my hall, wallpapered and painted and glossed (11 doors) and it cost £600 last year (that is up North though)

Best money I spent as I would have never would have done it

Its definitely worth asking a price I suppose. I have textured wallpaper on there and a border and I was thinking to just paint over it and put a new border on.

We recently saved up to get a bedroom, the living room and dining bit [its open plan] decorated. I can paint but it takes me ages and I'd be doing it in betweeen work and all weekend so would be ratty. 2 local guys who came recommended did a great job - all that done in 2.5 days and they moved furniture about and took down and replaced the curtain poles etc. Really clean and tidy too. Saving up now to get them back to the stairs and hall - don't regret the cost 1 bit was worth it [£350 including materials] :D

I think if you can afford it then paying for decoration is well worth it (having said that I have never got the professionals in!) Each time I decorate though I realise it would be so much less hassle to pay someone to do it properly, especially tricky areas like landings.

I personally think It's whether it matches up to a homebuyers report estimation though at the end of the day as this is the report that most buyers go for. Hopefully the agreed buying price and their estimation matches if not then more haggling starts.

Don't spend too much for someone to come along and change it all.

I did think that and the woman I am hopefully buying from said the same to me. They were going to whitewash every room but knowing that someone would come in and do their own decorating.
I think as the house stands I will get an EA round to give me a valuation. Its mostly cosmetic that needs doing.

A tip for when you market the house. You need to get a EPC within 28days of marketing. Book one online as they are much cheaper than the EA inhouse ones
..and change all the overhead light bulbs to energy ones ( lamps don't make a difference) as this affects the score although only slightly.

P.s Just read back on my diary and the EA quoted me £70 and I bought it online for £39.99. I went with a big company who subcontracted someone so you could get it even cheaper than that as you have time to shop about. HTH Pammy

Oooh it's all happening now Pammy! Your house will be on the market before you know it. Are the vendors of the house you like going to wait for you to sell?

Oh my word I dont even know what epc is! I have no clue how to sell a house!!
one EA is assessing house tonight and another tomorrow.
I dont know if she will wait as my offer is a lot lower than she wants I think.
