When my new car got pranged a few years back, the hire car I got didn't have central door locking

I pressed the key fob, got in the car, drove off and then realized when my dad didn't answer me that he was still on the pavement waiting for me to open the passenger car door for him :)

I must admit i like the idea of a green car.. I seem to always end up with red or silver...

My last three have been green (not on purpose!).

Al our recent ones have been silver, red or black. I loved my red fiesta so much and was gutted when it had to go.

Radish - thanks for the chuckle. So funny. Almost as funny as my favourite ever new car story from my old work colleague, who instead of getting in the driver seat went and got in the rear passeger seat and tried to put in the key. That one nearly made me wet myself. It was hysterical.

I got the car yesterday and woke up this morning to see that it is a VERY bright car  even in the dull weather lol The kids will want to come back later and go out in it no doubt. DD says it will be cool to be dropped off at school now :D:o
Need to do my insurance this morning

You wouldnt believe what I did on the way to test drive it though, I hit my passenger wing mirror on a skip! Have never pranged a car in my life and how typical to do it on my banger on that day!!
Michelle they wanted to give me £130 for mine and I said no way. They eventually after some persuasion upped it to £220 after I said I would walk away and let the 'other' person interested in it take it.

I can possibly OP £500 as I had £7k for a car but I dont like the look of my savings right now so its all a mindset for me whether to do it or not. It would leave me with £1200 in saving which is an OK figure but I know something would go wrong if I did OP that. But saying that I was that low before this money came through. I have just got used to seeing that money in the bank.

I think we must have similar comfort levels Pammy. We have about that left in the emergency fund, with about another thousand in my various savings pots and it makes me a bit nervous, but we will get it back because we will continue to work at it won't we.

I feel bad whinging about being skint when my sisters and brother being skint actually means no money in the bank or their pocket. None of them have ever been good at saving like me, but then again we have extra expenses as we have a house with a mortgage, and actually act like grown ups and not tapping my parents every 2 minutes.

At least you got some back for your old car without too much effort. We decided it was best if someone took it and repaired it rather than it being scrapped. The guy who has it now is a mechanic so he is likely to fix it very cheaply.

Can you get your overpayments back Pammy? I think the thing swinging it for me is it takes 2-3 days anyway to get cash out of our ING account, whereas it takes 4-5 days to get it from the mortgage overpayments, so hardly any difference at all. In the meantime we have access to a ridiculous amount of credit. Our joint CC is over £10k. No emergeny would be bigger than that. It is a feeling though isn't it, of being ok.

We'll be better off in a few months again.

Yeah it does feel strange to have that amount of money again but I do have to think that some people do live hand to mouth and we are really lucky in that respect. We do have to put it into perspective.
I do have a CC should I need to use it but havent used i for 5 years. I could also borrow from my mum if I was really really really desperate but that would be a totally last resort. Its all ifs and buts though isnt it.
OPing another £500 takes another month off the term

Have changed my insurance over, it cost me £62 (inc £25 admin) It would have cost me £50 to cancel so wasnt worth the hassle and I will still get the £26 cashback and will sell my stereo from banger for about £25 so will claw it back that way.
Am gutted that I had put £20 of petrol in the night before, felt like driving round in it to use it up haha!

ETA = due to the extra payment for insurance I have OP'd £400 and this has knocked me down to Nov 2020 and saved me £161 interest :)
I need another £300 to knock another month off, will keep hacking at it :D

OMG - that is just the sort of 'brainless autopilot' thing I would do! Hilarious!

I once left school a period early and it wasn't until I was halfway home that I noticed I was the only schoolkid on the road and I checked my watch!

Our policy was £62 to change too, but i did it myself online. We can claim back £68 for 4 months worth of tax though.

Dh ran his car into the garage on not much more than fumes for that very reason. No point wasting even more pennies, but not like you knew that was happening.

Well done on being brave and overpaying. I am trying to find about £250 to make our next big overpayment. Currently at 184 months to go.
