I will probably only have a day or two away from it all. Its like an obsession isnt it. I do want to make myself sit on the sofa with the kids at night watching the films we have recorded.

I just have a feeling my OPs arent going to be good as this year and that will knaw at me too.

I think the break sounds like a good idea- remember all overpayments help even if we don't meet our targets. Give yourself a pat on the back for managing any even if you don't get to your target.

My dad passed away and I never got a penny. And I didnt want any either.I can mourn him without feeling Im spending the money he should be alive to spend.
Just think of the ant and the grasshopper Pammy. The moral is still strong today.I am trying to find middle ground. But at least if we do something to make a difference then we are surely to find ourselves in a better position than someone who is greedy and takes without trying to work for anything.
Cant say I enjoy Christmas too much.I like the break, the over indulgence on food and wine. But I hate the debt from Christmas presents.Especially when people have ungrateful kids.End up thinking I could have got my own kids something with that and you arent even happy.
I am lucky that my kids are happy with anything.Well anything material. They are usually busy arguing with each other, lol.
We need a bit of sun Pam,thats what is wrong. This rubbish weather is getting to us all and making everything feel hard work. And making us worry about bills.
We are here ,let off steam when you need to.It is hard and thats why we come here.To support each other.
Ps take a look at something called Song people
Was on one of the other threads Im on.Get paid for rating music and surveys. Not done anything yet.

I didnt get a penny when my dad passed away, he didnt have any but even if he did I was the black sheep so I wouldnt have got any! I always remember him saying when I went back to see my mum after a few years away 'Have you heard I am dieing and come to see if I have a will?' THAT is why I had been away because of his nasty comments he used to say to me and my children!

I do need some sun, I think I might suffer from SADS! Then again I can be a moody c*w all year round lol. I have heard of that music thing and think I did have a look but I remember thinking its not for me.
I dont enjoy the stress of xmas mostly because of the stress of getting the right present for someone. Then again I dont get good things mostly either lol This year I have made an effort when people ask me for things I want - I tell them so fingers crossed lol.

Jellie, I know in my mind that any OP is good but there is my devil conscience that is saying you can do better than that measly OP you have just done. I have this niggling feeling everytime I spend on something useless.

I am going to pick up kids DS today, that has cost me £30 to get fixed so they better appreciate it!!!!!!

I had a friend with money troubles who was always going on about it but never followed any advice to improve her situation. She was always talking about the money she would get when her parents passed on and how she'd be ok then. I found it really difficult to listen too. Most of us have the odd daydream about winning the lottery etc but at least people on MSE are prepared to make hard choices to get to where they want.

Here's hoping her folks don't end up in a home then, that pot she's expecting will dwindle pretty quick .

We do need a balance in the frugality though (well, I say 'we', I'm not including myself in that - I'm so well balanced I've fallen off the scales in the opposite direction :rotfl:). We are (probably ;)) only here the once so no point being so frugal we end up miserable. Money is a tool to be used for good and bad - and sometimes a glossy mag or cream cake is a good use of it, as is money spent on making your home warm and comfortable.

As old Mr Grace used to say - 'you're all doing very well' :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I havent been frugal with the heating this year. I am experimenting with the 'leave the heating on low all the time and put it up when we are in' scenario and see how much that is going to cost me

I think a treat every now and then for being good is definitely necessary.

    Hi Pammy

you`ve done really well with your OP`s this year - good luck for next year too.

I think that we all have times when our motivation wanes but it always seems to bounce back!

I think that leaving the heating on is the best option this weather tbh, ours has been on constantly with the thermostat set at 18 degrees since the cold weather started, a few of the neighbours have suffered burst pipes etc as when theirs goes off overnight everything is freezing solid and i really don`t want to have to deal with anything like that so we should save in the long run. The bills will be bigger than previous years as the prices are higher and the weather colder but prevention is better than cure in this case i think.

Some peeps in our city have had no water for a few days as the mains water pipes are frozen  I`m counting ourselves as lucky atm, i`m running the washing machine in the middle of the night so that the hot water is going through the pipes at the coldest time to keep the drains clear. Think i`m just going to up mine a notch as its still chilly - at least the washing is drying quickly :D

Have a good Christmas and New year!

  • We have our heating on all the time at 18 degrees, but that's 18 degrees in the coldest part of the house. Mainly we do this for damp reduction purposes, but it seems to work ok and no worse than having it on a timer and warmer.
