Thanks, I'm having an 'off' week this week so it's good to hear. It has taken me a while to do, so I'm pleased as I don't really care how long the weight loss takes as long as it stays off. I'd rather do this healthily. The first 7lb I lost took 7 weeks, which is about right for long-term weight loss. :T

You're right to stick with healthy eating, gimmiky weight loss programmes don't work because they're not sustainable in the long run.

Some people will look at a gimmiky 'diet' which is wrong because that would assume that when they got to their goal weight they wouldn't need to be on a 'diet' anymore and would revert back to bad eating habits. A long term healthy eating plan is what's needed, it'll take longer but there is more chance of it staying off.

and got some fantastic advice. Pauper Princess the recipes are all vegetarian but can be adapted and they sound brilliant.

  • Did someone ask for a recipe?

This is my favourite - and both fat and debt busting.

And you can make it traditionally or in a slow cooker...

    Eyes down then!

    Ingredients
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
    • 1 litre (1.8 pints) vegetable stock
    • 2 carrots, chopped
    • 125g (4oz) green veg (courgettes, peas, green beans, chopped green cabbage)
    • handful of fresh basil, torn
    • tin of haricot (or other) beans
    • 125g (4oz) small pasta shapes
    • 600ml (1 pint) passata
    • olive oil

    To serve
    • pesto
    • parmesan

    Traditional method
    • Sauté the onions and garlic in olive oil for a few minutes.
    • Add the veg, herbs and stock and simmer for 10 minutes.
    • Add the beans, pasta and passata – simmer for another 10 minutes.

    Slow cooker method
    • Put all ingredients in the slow cooker and cook for 4-6 hours.

Serve with a dollop of pesto in the middle and sprinkled with parmesan.

For days off, consume with a mountain of garlic bread.
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

    Haaaaahhaaa...love it..."Minnie Strone"...:D

I know this is probably a daft question, but wouldn't slow cookers use huuuuuuge amounts of electricity if they have to be on for 4-6 hours?? Surely that's not very DFW?

Am having a BAD week by the way...combination of cold weather and that impending bark at OH rather than the moon time of the month is making me munch. Have got rid of all unhealthy food in the place so I can't be tempted and will make up something healthy so I don't just snack....I hope.

Slow cookers cook at a low heat and very slowly, they use about as much energy as a 1 watt lightbulb. They are very economical, unlike an oven which has to heat up to full heat first, you begin with hot sauce and a steady heat.

I think there is something in the air, I too am having a bad week!

It depends on the power output of the slow cooker. A 150W slow cooker will cost approx 1.2p per hour to run.

Some of the more powerfull ones (375W) will cost approx 4p per hour.

Hello ladies and the odd non lady, (odd as in funny)

Just a quick pre-weekend update from me :)

I've had a cold this week so haven't been to the gym a single time. I've also eaten extra to make me feel better - plus it is said you should feed a cold. Anyway, I'm feeling quite a lot better today so after a quiet weekend I should be ready to roll again on Monday. 5 weeks on monday until Christmas day!!!!

Have a nice weekend one and all,

    Batfink x
  • Hello again all!!! :D

Just stopping by to let you know I finally managed to go the gym yesterday - first time in about 6 months!! :j :j

Quite horrified at my review results though - body fat is high, resting heartbeat poor, lung capacity poor... :o

Still, gotta start somewhere!! Haven't managed to acquire a slow cooker yet but I did go to my local Farmfoods and stock up on cheap frozen veg and low fat meals - not brilliant but it's a start, and better than paying £1.79 for a Quorn lasagne in Morrisons liike I usually do!!

Sorry to hear that some of us are having a bad week - Batfink, I hope your cold clears up :)

Just gotta get through the weekend now... my worst time for trying to eat well

    Good luck everyone :)

Today isn't my official weigh in day but I jumped (well, stepped - don't want to break them!) on the scales anyway. Down 2lbs! Wasn't expecting that but it's going to keep me on the straight and narrow today. Going to walk to the shops as I don't get enough exercise. Might even take the long way and enjoy a walk along the beach!
