  • Hi there.
At 5'6 I don't think you have *that* much to worry about but welcome all the same and good luck with reaching your target. With some moderate exercise and healthy eating you should be there in no time.

I am 5'7 and weigh similar to you. I don't think I need to lose much weight - just need to keep on top of things/make sure I don't grow out of size 10/12 and also stop my hip area getting out of control.

I started this thread originally looking for cheap/free ways to exercise (it's blossomed since then - in a good way!) so have a good look through when you get time as you may pick up good tips.

Also, I google lots of things so try "low fat recipes" and ask for results from UK only and see what you get.

    Good luck!

  • I know it doesnt actually sound like I need to lose much weight- my BMI is only bordering on the 'overweight' section but I am WELL out of my 10/12 size clothes and bought a size 16 jumper recently! I'm just scared that its a slippery slope here on in.

I actually found a really cool website that you can use to monitor you intake, exercise and set targets. It has a great nutritional report section as well so you can check whether your diet is balanced. The only thing is that it's american (hence a bit of converting etc) but it has a journal section as well that ou can make live if you so wish. https://www.fitday.com, there is a FREE version (which still has a LOT of functionality). If this kinda stuff motivates you then i'd recommend it highly :-)
  • Fair enough ftb, of course you know your own body and I always think clothes give you a better idea of whether work needs to be done than a pair of scales so....a size 16 jumper if you are normally a 10/12 is possibly a fair indication :D

Good one finding that site if it helps you.

So, any ideas what exercise you will implement?

I did a fair amount of walking today and also lots of dancing around the lounge whilst boyfriend was closeted away upstairs in his study and some specific leg exercises (raises) :D

I am currently looking into dance classes in my area for the New Year when hopefully I will have a little bit of spare cash (no chance this side of Christmas!).

  • Well done everybody, I haven't weighed myself for a while but judging by my clothes I've not put on weight. Most of my clothes are size 12's now! Must keep up the exercise though, but I've no more long walks planned for a while, just a 10k on New Year's Eve.
I am really worried about Christmas though as it will be really tempting to splurge and as we are staying at my sister's for a few days there won't be much opportunity to exercise!

Well, first working Monday back after Christmas and I've begun the week very well. I started the Kellogs 'Drop a Jeans Size' Challenge today and managed to stick to it all day!

I also ran 4 miles this evening. I put on 4lbs over Christmas so undid some of my good work at the end of last year. But am back on track now.

Happy New Year all and Good Luck :T

    Lookahead
Billy Blanks is the Bomb!!!!!! brother bought me a DVD some years ago for x-mas its brilliant - I havent used it for a longtime but MUST dig it out. My only problem is I have been continually ill with one thing or another for the last 3-4 months
I was slimming worlding and lost about 7lbs but continue to hover at 12st.2-4lbs an acceptable weight for me would be 11st.7lb my ideal weight would be 10st10lbs
as I am not fully fit I think it would be wise for me to just walk and do some yoga for now. This is a great thread!

I can't believe I've not seen this thread before! I am constantly on a diet, but they never seem to work, so maybe I'll join in this one. I've had a bad day so far, but tomorrow's a new day, right?
