Relax, Phil. It's chocolate, but it's chocolate with air in it, so it's allowed!
I'm more than happy to encourage you - hey! maybe we could be virtual gym buddies? What do you think? We could keep pushing each other via here!
I've missed two days at the gym and can't go tomorrow either. So that's three whole days! Longest I've missed since I started on this journey of looking fab by 40! :rotfl: But I'm not going to get down about it because rest is also important in a weight training programme.Plus, I've spent my time wisely - catching up with a friend yesterday, seeing a film this evening and I've got a appointment tomorrow night.
Here's to the weekend! Have a good one and enjoy your evening in with your gran! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
Message to the tremendous Kathfisch!
Do Something Different - THANK YOU so much for mentioning this book! I've devoured the first part and I'm starting on my first challenge tomorrow. No telly! On a Friday too! How smug will I feel if I manage it?
How are you getting on? What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

He he, thanks to you Minnie for the weights training inspiration, I've been a bit scared by all the strange looking men mostly but I'm now thinking I might give it a go!
I've now been swimming 12 days out of the last 15 :j :T shameless round of applause for myself thereI can feel I'm getting stronger, I feel better every time I go and my clothes are getting looser (sp?) :j
Today I swam 500m front crawl without a break and felt like I could go on for ages more... am gradually getting back to my old swimming fitness which makes me so happy
Soooo glad you liked that book Minnie!!! It does make you feel tremendously smug and self-satisfied! Personally I don't watch telly but the internet and this place is my downfallGeneral browsing (boredom really) sucks away hours of my time and makes me feel like I've done nothing sometimes
So, I chose to give up computer for a day.... a whole day!! I could feel the impulses in my brain... the habitweb of just sitting down at the computer at every opportunity... and you know what? Not giving in was the best feeling :T I sometimes feel like I'm slipping back into that habit well, ok, every day
so I now have the odd day off just to remind myself I can live without it :rotfl:
You've inspired me to restart it actually (I stopped following the actual prog when I went on hols) and I've been meaning to start again. So, I declare, tomorrow I shall read the book again and Saturday I'll start at day two having already done my giving up computer twice this week and really really needing it for current manic job hunt!!!! We can compare notes??!
Phil, good luck with your weights!!! Don't forget... try not to feel intimidated by those weird people you find in gyms. You don't have anything to be ashamed of... you're making the effort, you're going there and doing something proactive to make yourself healthier... no-one can criticise you for that :TDon't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Phil and Kath
If a nearly-40, overweight, 5'4" bird in non-trendy gym clothing can stroll into Muscle Beach with the beefcake and proudly grab a 2kg weight while smirking and acting like an utter goddess (even if she does resemble Lisa Dingle) you both can too!
Here endeth the lesson. What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

I really like that idea, thank you!
I've lived with my gran for the past two years, since my grandad was killed in a riding accident actually. We get on very well and its given me an excellent opportunity to buy a house in need of renovation and work on it in my spare time without having to live in a building site!kathfisch wrote:Phil, good luck with your weights!!! Quite often when people in my family discover I go to the gym, they seem to think I aspire to be one of those sort of people with so much muscle they can barely move!
Only 5 hours to go until my vacation to muscle beach, I'm rather excited now!
Have a lovely day and thanks

Hallo peeps!!!
Have been baaaaaad so decided to pop back for inspiration and motivation. As an already 40-yr old there's no time to be a-wasting (unless it's spent drooling over Ray's with a bag of maltesers to....stop it!!!).
I'm going to attempt to get myself back on the path and lose 1.5 stone by Christmas.....fingers crossed....have already started by cutting down my awful drinking habits. The gym is not much of an option for me - apart from can't afford it, the Xmas run-in means I'm (hopefully) going to be flat out with work so any other tips?
:T :T Phil and everyone else - you're all so much "stronger" than me!

Hello,
I'm back from my trip to muscle beach and I have to confess it was much more pleasant than I imagined it would be! The trainer I had booked with was ill today - not that I'd specifically chosen him - so there was another man standing in for him. I think that was lucky break number one as he was brilliant. Really took the time to listen to my queries and worries and made sure he explained everything fully. I was also really pleased as he was obviously very up to date and is a regular marathon runner so actually does practice what he preaches.
Anyway, an hour and 10 minutes later and I've got a program all worked out with a review in just 4 weeks time. I can feel myself slipping into those 30" waiste trousers and 36" chest jacket on Christmas morning already!
I definitely owe you a big drink Minnie, thank you.

Oh, Phil! That's fantastic! And you enjoyed it too! Hurrah!
I look forward to the day when we meet at a [STRIKE]gurning[/STRIKE]body-building event. I'll dig out my baby oil in readiness.
It's good that you got a trainer who a) inspired you and b) spent the time to show you how to train properly.
Anything is possible now - right?
Drinkie? As it's Friday, mine's a Bailey's!
I'm back at the gym tomorrow for weights and Sunday for cardio.
What are you doing? Mind you, house renovationg is a bit of a work-out too! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

Hurrah! You're back! I've been wondering what had happened to you, missus!
I, too, have the Raymondo fantasies, but they involve cheesecake. What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160
