I don't know anyone who hasn't come back from travelling without losing weight - good luck to you!

I've lost nothing in the last week either. I'm holding the fridge personally responsible.

    Hello,

    Can I join?

I'm 29, Type 2 Diabetic, following the GI diet.

I've lost just over 2 stone in a about 12 months.

I need to loose another 3 stone to reach my ideal weight.

The main reason (after health) is that I'm waiting IVF, and if you are your ideal weight the better the chance of success.

Exercise isn't an issue as I enjoy walking and get plenty of chances at work, as I work at Manchester Airport and at the moment I am taking daily trips between both terminals and if I take the long route it's a 3 mile round trip, which I can do in 30-45 minutes. I do use the moving walkways but I keep moving.

    Welcome welcome to MadDogWoman! :T :j :D

Congrats to you on losing the first 2 stone, that's a huge achievement :T and good luck for the rest, keep us updated on your progress :)

I haven't been around for a while but, if you recall, I've been reading Allen Carr's Easyweigh book, and promised to report back a while ago :o

Well, I can't say that I was terribly impressed, or that it's caused a huge revolution in my eating  The trouble is any criticism will probably just make me seem like one of those people who is struggling to 'open their mind' to his way, has been successfully 'brainwashed' by society and should just have some more faith!

At the risk of all that..... it really didn't tell me anything I didn't know. He promotes the benefits and pleasures of eating fruit and veg (which he says are the main food types we as humans have been designed to eat). He's right, fruit and veg are delicious and require little preparation/additives etc, but I knew that! He goes on, though, to detail how we are not designed to eat meat and dairy at all.

All the way through the book, its repeated that the easyweigh will allow you to eat 'as much as you want of the foods you like and be a healthy weight' which sounds too good to be true obviously! Basically, the principal is that you learn to listen to your hunger and eat only to satisfy that (eat as much as you want) and learn to undo the brainwashing and enjoy the 'right' foods that you should be eating (the foods you like). It is also repeated throughout that there are no rules, no restrictions, no counting calories or weighing foods - but then he does detail some 'guidlines' about when to eat what kinds of food, in what order and in what mixtures.

I've no doubt that the book is helpful to many, and it wasn't entirely unhelpful to me, it just wasn't what I had expected. I do eat a fairly healthy diet as it is, I just think that I eat too much and am in the habit of eating certain foods even when I know (on some level) that I don't even really enjoy them (I did agree with some of the brainwashing stuff but it wasn't totally a new concept to me).

So anyway, that's my thoughts (sorry for rambling! :o ).

I'm on the lookout for some inspiration/insight/thought about the psychology of eating habits etc. I know its totally a problem in my head really - eating for comfort, out of habit and for reassurance (or a treat). But when I do these things I don't really enjoy it because I know I shouldn't do it, I feel weak for not having the willpower and I feel bad that I haven't lost weight - killer pile of guilt and negative stuff there  :rotfl:

I've heard quite a lot of good reviews about "The No Diet Diet" book or whatever it's called - all about changing habits and routines in all parts of your life to help you achieve more in all areas (and lose weight), sounds interesting. There's not going to be a magic fix, I know that, but I'm on a search for some inspiration or insight, like I said. I've tried for so many years to get to the bottom of it myself, to understand why I eat too much and change it but I haven't had any luck (well, I stopped putting on weight which is a first step I guess).

If even just one sentence of someone's theories chimes with something in my head, it might set off something and help me understand myself a bit more. Here's hoping :o

Apologies (again :o ) for rambling.... I feel comfortable saying all this stuff here and it helps to write it even if no-one reads it!

Good luck with reaching your targets everyone :T :D

    I have an idea!
    fanfare.jpg

Inspired by other DFWers with their spending goals, I decree today that we're having one too! I even brought my own fanfare to announce it!

Working on the principle that habits are formed (thank you Mr Carr - he does have his uses, Kath!) can I suggest that we each set ourselves a weekly goal? Only ONE mind. That makes it easier to focus.

Think of a FFW friendly goal to achieve this week. Post it below and report back next week.

    Here goes:
My goal is to go to the gym FOUR times this week.
    OK - next!
