Hiya -TangleFoot- Thank you for coming back to the thread to try and help...
There isn't a problem with the mouse. The very first problem occured at Christmas, when I plugged in my digital camera to download some pics, which I'd done on many occasions
There was a weird noise coming from the PC as soon as I plugged the connector in. I restarted etc. to find the the 'Power Surge on Hub Port' message.
I posted a thread earlier in the year to get help, and FM loaner helped me to sort it out.
I will need to re read the thread to see if I can sort this problem out I think. The only thing is that loaner has deleted some of his replies to me, so it'll take some time to re read it all.
This second problem occured because my youngest son plugged his iPod in to recharge, that's when the noise appeared again, when I restarted that's when I found that the screen had froze to the initial screen message which I posted on page 1 of this thread.
I know there are lots of posts on this thread now, and can't expect you to read them all!
But that problem appears to be sorted out, and now I'm back to the initial problem with the power surge balloon
If you have a solution, then I will obviously appreciate your help very much.
EDIT: I meant to say that the mouse, keyboard and PC has worked fine, and I've been able to use it to go online until my son plugged his iPod in...................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -
I offered you a solution about fifty-five posts back. Electrical problems are notoriously difficult to pin down in cases like this; in all likelihood diagnosis and repair would cost you more than straightforward replacement!0

Yes I recall your post, but the thing is I'd like to save my old PC as I have loads of familt pics stored on it, and to use when I have a laptop problem.
AOL techies always get me to go back to the old PC as passwords etc are stored on there. I don't know why they do it that way but that has happened at least 3 times this year!
Also when my eldest Son comes home I usually let him have use of the laptop, being as he bought it for me for Christmas, and I use the old PC. So I really do want to keep it alive if possible.................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -
Everything 'on' your PC is 'in' your HDD. That's the only part you need to keep.0

But if I can't use it, I can't go online to correct any faults...

Because I tried to sign on this afternoon, to copy & paste the message that came up after spanky was trying to help me.
I can't type my AOL password in because of the keyboard not working.
It lights up when I wiggle the mouse & keypad connectors, but dosen't let me use it.................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -

I only have 1 round connector, so wouldn't be able to use the keyboard when I get it going again.................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -
That has nothing to do with the contents of your hard disk and everything to do with the interface between the keyboard and your computer. A new computer (or motherboard) with a USB keyboard and USB mouse would sort that out pretty sharpish.MARTINS_DOLL wrote: »I can't type my AOL password in because of the keyboard not working.
If you got a new motherboard, you would of course have to fit it yourself.0
