I know what you mean told some friends at dinner friday night there was also another pg woman who had two weeks to go. Yet another friend decided to tell us her two birth stories in full detail not even stopping whilst we were eating. All i got all evening was ohh you wait to this happens to you or that happens to you !!!!! I am not squeamish in any shape or form at all but it put me off my dinner.Darling son born 10/12/09 hopefully the 1st of many :j0 -
ML - your 3d pics are fantastic and I was pretty chuffed with my 20 week scan detail!
Glam - my OH keeps making me get weighed on the Wii (I think he justs wants to laugh at my graph going up and up especially as I am already "overweight"!)and I am just up to my pre pregnancy weight. I haven't done any hula hooping, etc for a while, feel a bit scared about it TBH.Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)
Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early)0 -
I'm def slowing down too - and get puffed a lot more easily (which being an active type I don't like at all) But basically I'm fine and well and haven't struggled with it. Am also feeling pretty relaxed about the birth thing, which surprises people (FIL asked if I was 'getting stressed' - I said 'no, what's the point?' Of course you do think about it and know there will be some discomfort and things may not go according to plan, but I reckon the more positive and relaxed you are, the easier you make it for you and bubs... after all, women have been doing this for a long time!)
I'm going to stay til the end but am expecting to be working at home almost full-time for the last 2 weeks and probably about twice a week for the two weeks before that.MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Lou - I know exactly what you mean! I hate that 'you just wait...' thing - it's like people are determined to knock any optimism and enthusiasm out of you! I haven't come up with the ideal retort to that yet - if anyone has one, do let us know!
I think for every one person that's said positive things there are at least 5 who have been negative - such a shame. They don't mean to be on a downer but it really doesn't help!MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

OK, well, I'm having a homebirth so I'll be doing all my labouring here, and I saw in Ina May Gaskin's book on childbirth that a position they use a lot in labour at her place in America (she is a MW) is an old position that originated in Ireland.
they have a hook on the ceiling and loop a rope or material over it, so the labouring woman can hold onto it above her head and use it to get into an assisted squat.
You can also squat and lean back, which is similar to and more effective than hanging off the doorhandles, which the NCT teaches as a position for labour.
It basically helps to open up your hips and aids your balance so it's easier than a squat, and not necessarily as deep.
I don;t have a hook in the ceiling, unsurprisingly, so I plan to hang it over the top bannister and squat in the hall. My stairs go round each other kind of like a square spiral, so it will work quite well.
I only need a rope for it and it seems an effective position so worth the cost of the rope.
They used that in ancient Egypt too. Rope was attached overhead (ceiling joist, tree limb) and you would hang onto it for dear life, lots of straw there below you and you would let go to catch the baby as it was delivered. Actually I saw a documentary that suggested Jesus was born this way (as it was the usual means of delivery in them days).
ML, seriously cute little cub you got cooking there!0 -
Aaargh! Am feeling really annoyed! We are interviewing for my cover person soon and one of the five ppl we called for interview has withdrawn... but didn't bother to tell us until we chased today to find out why she hadn't sent in her pre-interview task.
We're in recession, people are desperately applying for jobs and she takes up an interview spot that could have gone to someone else if she'd bothered to let us know in time  No odds to us, but thinking about other, good, applicants that may still be redundant and looking - how selfish.MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Hi all
Just had a call from the midwife. GTT results were fine (hoorah), iron levels are fine (hoorah) but my platelets are up (WFT does that mean?). Got to go back in three weeks for another blood test to check if they have gone down again. She said it just happens sometimes and is nothing to worry about. Am in work so was a bit difficult to ask any more when she called. Will google now why what etc but has anybody else had this? If they are high again next time (10th July), I 'gotta' be consultant led instead of my HB.
Any experiences of high platelets? Anything I can do to bring them down? lol Blood letting anyone?
ETA Just found info on someone with high platelets having a homebirth so I have just altered the 'gotta' slightly!
I found this on the homebirthuk website:
http://www.homebirth.org.uk/youcant.htm#10
"You have high platelet levels"
The concern is about blood clots occurring when you are in labour. I don't have any more information on this condition at the moment, but Emma's Story describes her negotiations during pregnancy and a successful home birth despite high platelet levels.
Emma's story is here http://www.homebirth.org.uk/plateletshigh.htm
Hope this helps a bit. It would be worth contacting homebirthuk as they will be able to give you information so you can make an informed choice about where you want to birth and your risks. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

One is not amused about day care today, or more specific, the bloody doctor I saw.:mad::mad: Firstly, I now have to get a GTT done as I had 3+ glucose in my urine (but only 1+ protein). BP is down to healthy normal. Told them about the side effects of the labitalol. MW I saw is anti co-codamol so I had to listen to her ranting and raving about how I shouldn't take it if it doesn't help, just take paracetamol. Totally ignoring when I said that I had been told to take them anyway.
Then the doctor turned up (and I had 10mins before I HAD to leave to get DS1 on time). He glanced at my notes, said yes to the GTT, dismissed me when I started telling him of my side effects and went into a speil about how the medication works, I know how it works (course he ignored this as I am just an ignorant patient). Then decides that I can go down to twice daily, which I agree too. Then he says come back in 4 weeks, excuse me?! No, says I, my consultant wants me to have a scan every two weeks, no need for that says he, 4 weeks is fine. MWpoints out that in 4 weeks I will be 35 weeks which is when I was delivered first time, blank goes his face, and 33 weeks was as far as I got last time. No 4 weeks is fine. So I pipes in that my consultant said 2 weeks and as she had actually read my notes I'd rather go with her decision. He looked put out and then made me wait ages for my notes.
Eventually I ended up leaving with my GTT appointment and notes but he still hadn't typed up the report so the doctor who was with him who happens to live in the village is going to drop them round tonight with my day care appointment.
Oh and he argued with me that my BP must have been high inbetween pregnancies. Hummmm.... I think I know my own medical history better than you you !!!!!:mad::mad:0 -
ML experts! Just doing some rough (early!) thinking. My new EDD is Boxing Day (which is a Saturday) and obviously Christmas is a bank holiday - so can I request my ML to start on the 28th??? B/c I was going to take previous 4 weeks (or whatever...haven't decided exact quantities) as annual leave.
It sounds technical, but every day is precious & that saves 3!top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
would like to win a holiday, please!!
:xmassmile Mummy to Finn - 12/09; Micah - 08/12! :j0 -
aless - I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you can start your ML after the EDD on your MatB1
you are entitled to your BH whilst on ML, so you will be able to add those days to the end of your leave.
BTW - my ML, starts the day before my EDD0
