the earlier posts in this thread about the "carp" woman who accept pain relief in labour have really upset me
I don't think any of the discussion was meant to upset you, and I think the point was not that she took the pain relief but that she was completely uninformed about the process of labour.
We all know it's a dynamic process and we're not all going to get the births we want (I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be a mama by midnight with a flat tummy and my navel back...), which is why people are suggesting that being well informed about the specific potential risks/events likely to be associated with our own births is so important.
I hope this helps.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

No the point being made was that she didn't debate the pros and cons with the midwife before she took it. No one can know how informed or otherwise she was about the process of labour - we are encouraged to stay at home until we can't manage the pain on our own any longer, and this woman, who was televised, arrived at hospital and wasn't in a fit state to do anything other than accept what she was offered by a professional who could see she needed something. For this she was called a piece of excrement by the poster on here. And that's what has upset me, as I have no idea how I'm going to cope this time round having had such a bad time on so many fronts last time round, and the thought that there will be hordes of women judging me and making apalling comments like that about me if they find out I haven't coped well either physically or emotionally is really not helping me at the moment.0 -
That's not how I read the post, Nicki, and I'm sure you'll cope the same way that everyone does - the best you can, whatever way that turns out to be.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Hi all, not caught up with the rest of todays posts yet so Ill do that now. Just eaten 2 bits of flapjack after my dinner of chicken, chips and mushy peas, mmm. It was homemade flapjack so didnt seem as bad, hehe!!
Just wanted to ask a quick question. We bought a moses basket and stand from ebay a little while ago and it is in great condition. Do I need to buy a new mattress for it even thought the one in there looks as good as new (but I presume it has been used). Its just I heard that you should have a new mattress for cots although Im not too sure why.
Thanks in advance!!Baby Toby born 17th Nov 09 :j0 -
Harvey, they measure things in your urine like this... a trace (tr), 1 + upto 4 +.
1+ of protein is note worthy but not serius, did they send the sample off or is she just leaving it to see how it is next time? It could well be a faulty batch. Or your sample could be contaminated by cervical mucus which is protein.
Thanks Tia. I think she meant 1+. Didn't send anything away so I guess she'll test again in 3 weeks and see what that shows. Been clear up until now and she did comment that this batch of tests had all shown something (maybe a trace - the student called it a line). I'm sure if it was anything to worry about she would have said so, I just wondered what it meant. Of course, the mucus is what I was there to check so that it a highly plausible reason.
Nicki, I didn't really want to get involved in the discussion because it is a personal decision that everyone has to make for themselves. But I wanted to say that the only person in a position to judge you is you. You don't need to tell anyone how well (or badly) you have coped with labour. It is a personal moment and I can't see me going into any detail with friends or family. And anyone who felt free to criticise any decision I made in the best interests of either me or my daughter might find that they are not on my Christmas card list this year. lol. You make whatever decision you think is best, everyone else can mind their own business.

Nicki - You are not a failure. No-one knows how they are going to react to pain/child birth until they are actually there. Please don't take the comments on here to heart, I'm sure they wern't meant that way. Any woman that can go through child birth deserves a medal, no matter how or what they took to get there, at the end of the day a safe and happy abby is all that matters! Hugs! x0

Harley- I was just going to ask if you'd heard from Mothercare. Wonder what they class as a 'partial refund'?
No news from Tara? Hopefully that is a good sign and she will be on soon to tell us of her gorgeous new arrival!
WM-hope your OH gets his op soon. I can't imagine how tough this must be for you.
My deputy who was exposed to Swine flu last weekend is now ill! He was off yesterday which is very unusual for him, then came in but went home early today. I did point out I'd rather he'd stayed at home today. I don't think it's flu though- he doesn't seem to have that many symptoms plus it was seven days from exposure to symptoms which I think is too long for swine flu. I did disinfect the whole office though, and broke the phone by putting to my anti-bacterial gel on it!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0
