(I dont think it helps that I watched Marley and Me on the way home on the plane and JA is pregnant in that and they go for there scan and there is no baby there :( it was very sad, so that kinda thing makes me worry too, I think I am a big worrier)

Hi Kindofagilr, I was exactly like you when I watched Marley & Me at the cinema. I was probs about say 8 or 10 weeks pg then and that scene in the hospital really stuck in my mind. Try not to worry though, when I told my mother in law that I was paranoid something was going to go wrong she said not to worry as it is the most natural thing in the world, which helped. Also she told me to stop looking at the internet, lol, I clearly didnt listen to that piece of advice :D

Nikabella, if you are editing the list can you please put me as team blue :)Many thanks, hope everyone has a lovely day xx

I've just read the most ridiculous "news" article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1199156/Why-mothers-pain-childbirth--male-expert-midwifery.html

For the benefit of any first-time moms on this thread, my babies are 24 and 4 months old. I had an epidural with my first and an epidural and a spinal with my second - and I've been breastfeeding continuously since my eldest was born. So don't let anyone scare you off having pain relief, if you want/need it. It will *not* prevent you from bonding with your baby and breastfeeding (if you want to).

I knew someone would post on this... a classic example of why not to believe what you read in the Daily Mail! (a peer-reviewed scientific journal article vs a tabloid newspaper? - of course they want to hype it up so it sounds more contraversial than it actually is.)

I heard the man speak on Radio 4 this morning and he is NOT stigmatising women who want pain relief. His definition of 'purposeful' was (it seemed to me) a medical one about the rhythms of labour. In fact, the (woman) doctor they had commenting on what he said was in agreement with most of it. Her angle on his position was that better more consistent MW care in labour would reduce the perceived need for epidurals as women often have them as they're scared of the pain when left alone for long periods. She defended the right to choose pain relief AS DID HE - all he was saying was that there was in NORMAL labours often a physiological role for the 'pains'. If we treat ALL pain as ABnormal and 'treat' it, we may not be doing the best for the woman and baby.

Of course, there are circumstances when pain relief is needed - he didn't contest that for a second.

  • Sorry guys that came over as a bit of a rant - it wasn't meant to be :D I just read some of the comments after the article and they made me really cross! It's such a shame when an opinion gets distorted and hashed about by the media, causing all kinds of unnecessary furore and the core message gets lost! You can take or leave such an opinion but pretty irresponsible of the Mail to totally distort what the guy said so people can't make an informed judgement for themselves (unless they happen to search out other commentary for a more balanced view). ironically, both this man and the doctor who was responding were championing women having an informed view!

Oh, lots to catch up with from last night...
Congrats Pinkpig and welcome to Caitlyn Rose  Sounds like you did a fab job.
Welcome to the newbies and those returning - lots of sticky vibes to you all.
Tia - sounds like things are beginning to make a move for you. You are allowed to be worried about you...just a long you and baby are happy and healthy, if that means her arriving early, then so be it, you have been there before and you know what to expect and that you'll ge through it. Just take care of you all! x
Tara - I'm hoping not to see you today unless it's to announce a safe arrival :D Good luck vibes for you! x
Tink - labour vibes coming your way - and SS if you want them?
Hypno - Glad to see your still here, hang in there huni! ;)

I'm tired today - was awake just before 6 and couldn't settle so got up. Think my body is getting me prepared for things to come. Feeling like I need to get things sorted, even though I don't expect anything to happen for a few weeks yet. Still got two weeks left at work and then I have my leaving meal with work on the Monday after. Anytime after then is fine though! Still have a few bits pick up before my hospital bag is complete - thinking I need a vest top to wear in the pool and I'm looking at picking up a tens machine too! I also need to stock up on paracetamol, we seem to have run out  but I'm wanting a supply in the house for when things begin.
Oh, and I need to do a stock up in Tesco too - got a new batch of parenting club vouchers I need to make the most of - I worked out I can get 4 packs of size 2 nappies (think I have enough newborn now:o) and 3 packs of wipes for £13 using the various vouchers.

Hoping for a busy day on here, I haven't much work to keep me occupied, lol

Welcome to all the newbies! (especially those familiar faces fom the TTC thread!) :T  I have to admit, I love seeing lots of names after mine now on the EDD list, hehe.

tara - you're not a failure! You'll vulnerable right now and these idiot staff are totally taking advantage of that and being stupid. Be firm and stand your ground - after all, they can't drag you to the hospital!

congrats to molly & pinkpig! We demand photos! :D

starbump - another classic example of the quality of the Daily Mail *eyeroll*

Have had some killer headaches lately which I can't tell are connected w/ pregnancy or not. I never used to get them with this sort of frequency (almost everyday) or intensity. MW said only to see GP if they don't go away after paracetamol or I get double-vision. They're not that bad yet, but I really hate popping para. all the time. Maybe it's a combo of stress and coming back from holiday/travelling (stress not from work...basically, my mom's dying and obviously that's not really something I can remove myself from). Luckily is too early to be signs of pre-e, but I just want them to go away!!

  • Morning all :D

    Pinkpig - HUGE congrats

    Nikabella - Welcome back

tara - Big HUGS for you

Well I'm now 1 day over and I'm still here! In all honesty I don't think this little one has any intension what so ever of moving and spent last night kicking the living daylights out of me, I think to prove a point!

I must admit though I'm not at the stage of saying get this out of me now I think it's just I'm so excited I can't wait for it all to happen and I finally get to meet the baby I've been waiting for, for 8 years

Anyway, meeting some of the NCT girls later so that will be nice, half have had babies already and half of us are still waiting so it'll be good to catch up with everyone.

    So how's everyone else today?
You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same
