Yes, after the scan showed he was breech they booked me for the section. Turned out baby couldn't wait though and I went into labour 1st.

Just for people's information, and Jvic I'm sure you did the right thing for you and your baby, but a breech baby doesn;t automatically HAVE to be delivered by C-section, it's just the NHS no longer has the skills to deliver them vaginally.

Independent midwives often have these skills, and breech babies can and are delivered successfully vaginally, although the type of breech will make a difference as to how easy it is.

Just adding this for info as currently my baby is breech so I've done a lot of research into it (because I still want my home birth).

The key thing is for the MWs and doctors to not touch the baby at all, but all the baby and mum to do all the work. Quite hard for the average doctor to do though! They prefer to get hands-on!

If anyone wants more info/links I can add them.

But jvic's baby (as was my first) was a footling breach, not a frank breach. This means that baby was presenting with feet coming down the birth canal, not bum, and to deliver a footling breach vaginally has a 15-20% of compression of the umbilical cord and fatality to the baby (as opposed to 0.5% chance for other kinds of vaginal delivery). So, personally I think she and I made the right decision, and anyone who would contemplate a home birth with a footling breach is a far far braver (?) person than me!

Thanks for clearing that up! I just wanted to make sure I had the story right :) I love hearing everyone's experiences b/c it gives me 1 more nugget of info to think about when it comes to my own baby's birth :)

(skinty - I was thinking that I've heard of breech births before, but it's possible that it was back in the US. I didn't know that the NHS didn't do them! Thanks.)

I agree but the words used by the consultant was that they wouldn't attempt to deliver a footling breech normally, however, I wouldn't have wanted to risk any further complications by doing it any other way anyway.

wow skintcick thanks for all the help and links. you have given me tons of options. I don't really need a cot as still got ds's cotbed. We are having a cabin bed delivered this week for him bit early i know but it was in the sales. I don't know what to do really, Ds didn't stay in the moses basket for very long at all i think it was about 3-4 weeks he moved round so much my health vistor told me to put him in his own bed in his own room and the minute he was in his own bed he went from 8pm to 8 am and still loves his sleep now. So i am not sure therey are worth there money.

    Congratulations Jvic!!!

Storm, my MS this time got better by 12 weeks (only lasting an hour or so in the morning) and was all gone by 16 weeks. Don't worry that you are only eating crackers, baby will still get everything they need even if you feel like crap. Try and get as much sleep as possible, I found being in bed by 10pm to be up at 7am helped me a huge amount, was sick as a dog if I was any later to bed. Eat what you can when you can and try and drink as much as possible. And congratulations!

Bad headache today and I feel sick with it too. Co-codamol are doing NOTHING. Was fine this morning and then suddenly it just came on. And DH is on back shift tonight so I'm all alone with the kids.

Got a humphreys corner cot mobile from eBay for £5inc delivery and it arrived today, it is so sweet! Really pleased and it looks brand new, I love ebay! :rotfl: My free breast flow bottle turned up too. As did my new tax credits award, which is not so great, need to call them

Congratulations Jvic on the birth of your baby boy and thanks for your birth story. Labour still seems so far a way for me (I'm 22 weeks) but I'm sure it will come round pretty quick!

Welcome Storm, I had bad morning (all day) sickness. As the midwife told me the baby will get all the nutrition it needs from what you do eat so not to worry too much. Mine passed at about 16 weeks, but I did go to bed crying with frustration that I just couldn't stop feeling so sick and felt awful. Thankfully though as everyone says it does pass and now I am just feeling tired. It definitely helps coming on here and being able to vent a bit.
