    Afternoon all

Firstly - Moggins - Happy Birthday

elona - hope you dad isn't too bad when you go back to visit - I know it's hard, but make sure you keep your chin up and help him to keep his chin up!

Shez - Happy anniversary - have a good rest of the day!

Had to pay road tax today, £60.50 - great start....

Took mum out shopping decided to pay a visit to the Farm shop for veggies, much much fresher cheaper and nicer

Also went back to the half price clearance at Julian graves for some easiyo packets and another jar.

Bought some hyacinths from Sainsbury's as they are BOGOF so took one to my friends mum who is now out of hospital and on the mend!

Also bought some flowers and went to the cemetry to where dad's ashes are buried.

Haven't been very OS so far but I am making HM burgers for tea and some Lemon curd tarts for OH and SS.

Will start the easiyo tomorrow - need to read more how to do without the packets, looked briefly last night but really must pay more attention!:rotfl:

    Have a great evening everyone

    Hello everyone

    **!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU MOGGINS!!**

I am glad to hear that your OH has been very good and thoughtful and gave you a present - yes it might be a bit extravagant, but you are worth it!

    Happy Anniversary Shez!

Elona, I hope your dad shows lots of improvement - I'm sure he's being well cared for where he is now.

ChaMichelle...glad your kitty is feeling better. They are worse than children when it comes to worry, according to one of my friends who has both a baby and a cat...(though she had an exceptionally healthy and happy baby and an exceptionally naughty kitty).

I didn't take a sleeping tablet last night, as I felt shattered enough that I thought I might sleep anyway - I had a lot of sleep though I did get up and have a wander around MSE a few times during the night, and read the play I am studying at the moment (I actually understand it on the third reading). I'm not exactly keen on taking the tablets, just if I am desperate for a good night's sleep. I have an interview on Tuesday - a sideways move within the company and most importantly away from that gurning sulky woman I work with and away from useless manager - so want to be clear headed for that, so perhaps one on Monday evening would be useful.

Today has been a right lazy lard-butt day for me, have achieved the sum total of nought. OK, I did a bit of washing etc last night, but the house is a tip. I engaged avoidance therapy and went to a posh shop in a village about 10 miles away today - oh I wish I were rich! It's one of those lovely dept stores which is full of homely luxury goods like posh kitchen scales, gorgeous towels and cushions, beautiful candles, absolutely sumptuous bed linen, fantastic ranges of china and cut glass etc etc etc! I noticed that they even had two types of cheese slicers on offer, both being the ones that look like cake slice wotsits. I didn't buy anything, there was far too much I wanted - not even a cheese slicer! I don't actually need anything from there, but that's not the point. I know where I will be going if I happen to find myself with a few extra pennies one day.

I've stocked up on kitty food too - I had some Hill's vouchers to use up. Hill's is quite expensive, but only the best for my cuddly fluffy babies. They are a little too cuddly at the moment so I bought them the diet biscuits to try and make them a little more slinky. I of course am super-cuddly, but somehow a bottle of wine "fell" into my shopping basket when I popped into the supermarket.

Bargain Rzl...you gave me the homesick blues when you described the area around South Kensington. I live in Ireland now, but I worked in that area for about a year - I get quite sad when I read about my old haunts, can't quite believe how much I miss it TBH. It's a lovely area around there, I would just love to live in one of those white Nash terraced houses...well, we can all dream... Lillibet, I worked in Woking for a year as well, but somehow I can't get worked up about missing it there...hope you nabbed some useful items at the freecycle house clearance

I hope to devote the rest of the weekend to study, so have to buzz off now and do a bit of cleaning and the rest of the washing. I might even wash the car (or maybe I won't bother!!).

Bye all, hope you're enjoying your Bank Holiday weekend.

    Evening all

Purplegirl - thanks for the warning about pizza huts non refillable drinks - wasn't best pleased to hear they've stopped that... we went to the Folkestone branch and the service was dreadfull - will be complaining.

After a mooch around the library we came home and I had an attack of the weak and wearies (as my mother would call them) and actually took DH's advice and went to bed - fell straight to sleep and woke 3 hours later to a cup of tea and box of chocs (think I worried him). Lay in bed watching tv for a bit before a quick trip to the beach for a run around with a ball and DD's - picked up chips on the way home.

Sometimes it's nice to know that the world doesn't stop if I take the afternoon off.

Everyone sounds like they've had a great day - hope the weather stays nice for tomorrow.

That reminds me of when I used to work for a building society (in a past life - pre baby no 1, who now has 2 babies of her own!) I think probably the worst of Saturday mornings had to be the pigs. Someone in head office had the bright idea that it would be a good idea to give all children who opened accounts a lovely piggy bank. What a nice idea - except for one thing... they didn't give them a key to go with it! So, on the one day they could come in ie Saturday, all the kiddies would turn up with nice full piggies which we had to open, then count all the money (of course it wasn't nicely bagged up!) to pay it into the account. Can you imagine our glee if we spied a family of happy children heading our way 5 minutes before closing time on Saturday morning?!!

I can imagine!! It seems as if some of the uk population simply cannot organise themselves to get in at a reasonable time, and dont care that they are wasting my saturday because they are tardy! Now I dont mind so much on a week day, but my saturdays are precious as I want to maximise my time out of work, so I have enough time to clean my flat, launder my clothes, and do some shopping before the rigmarole of it all starts again!

Does anyone else feel like they spend 9-5 monday to friday desperately trying to turn their brains off from the thought that they are spending most of their waking lives in a place they dont want to be simply to afford the one week a year they get to really be away from the harsh reality of daily life?? Or is it just me?

oh how exciting, why, what, when icon7.gif

Sunday am show - on BBC1 at 9am tomorrow. All DH is doing is putting in the light and sound system, and he said it was in a hotel with big glass windows, with the castle in the background.

Thanks for all the thoughts about fred everyone. The vet nearly lost his thermometer as well as he was a bit more jumpy than he thought, and there doesn't seem to be an infection. Latest opinion is it might be a fox that had hold of him - cue me not letting him out ever again as i don't think the daft haporth will have learnt his lesson. Next visit to vet will be on Thursday.

Moggins - your present sounds fab.

jo - i totally agree with your viewpoint about w**k. I used to really enjoy it, and i know i'm better than some as i get my 'holidays' and it's well paid. But when i'm still working at 10pm most weekday nights, and then a good part of Sunday, i just want to swap it all for working anywhere. I am hoping everyone feels the same. I just keep thinking 'stop the world - i want to get off' and 'there has to be more to life than this'. I think i'm having a mid-life crisis and i'm only 27.

well - didn't get much cleaning done. But i did have a nice bath, and then a snooze on the settee once my sister and nephew had left. Boy i really needed that. I'm now going to settle with a book, and then an earliesh night for me.

    have a lovely weekend everyone

    Evening folks,

Well, it is a beautiful clear evening ... and all I can hear are the cheers of drunken louts outside the house, oh I do love my life at times.

DH has just checked in at the airport, so he will be back tomorrow ... with his washing ... but more importantly, with a new toy for me ... a new digi cam. He asked me for a shopping list, so I erm, gave him one, LOL. It did mean a lot of frantic texting last night between us to ensure he got a good deal. I found a good site for txting his mobile which doesn't cost anything and you don't have to register for either. Most handy! (Does that count as moneysaving!?!)

I ventured shopping today, an 1hr20mins drive away ... with DD ..... she did really well and we had no accidents :T :T :T even when we got caught on the M6 on the way back for an extra hour in stationary traffic. As you can imagine, I was a little nervous then! LOL!

Tomorrow I was meant to be going to a Christening, but I'm not sure I'm that brave to go with DD on my own ... last time we were in that Church, she discovered that it echoes when she shouted and was only really happy when she went to sit with her friend at the front (and therefore centre of attention) ..... I will, however, go to the celebration afterward and give my respects and pressie (blimey, o'reilly, people weren't kidding the other day at the price of cards were they  £3.00 !!!)

I've taken to buying my cards from "Phoenix Cards" whose price is about £1.00 each for v.nice cards.

Cha97Michelle - Glad to see you have a good name for your cat "Fred", our cat's name is Fred too ... other people look at me a bit odd when I tell them what his name is. I think Fred is a fitting name for a cat! Mine is a sturdy black and white cat who hunts and prowls and sleeps.

Finally, I bought a new hoover today ... someone explain to me why I went in to the shop with the express intention of buying a "Hoover Bagless Upright" and ended up buying a "Miele cylinder with bags" The sales assistant was good I'll give her that! Can anyone please reassure me I've bought the right hoover!!!! It did do good suction though - I tried it out. It has different attachments for my wooden floors and the filters are interchangeable, so whilst it comes with a HepA filter I can use a charcoal or a bog std one. I shall play tomorrow! My Dyson went to the tip and I really couldn't cope with Henry alone any longer.

Sorry for rambling, it's what happens when I have no adult company to talk to!!!!! Don't worry DH will be back tomorrow! (Mind you, will that help :rotfl: )

I had dinner in a hotel in Edinburgh last year, the restaurant was on the top floor and had big glass windows and the view of the castle was spectacular. The hotel was on the Grassmarket. Wonder if it's the same one.

Totally agree, ours is a sturdy white and black cat (looks abit like a cow) and his name is Henry or a you little b****r when he brings in dead pigeons like the other night :rotfl:

I suppose it may say what the name of the hotel is if i watch the show tomorrow morning. Or i'll ask DH if he rings me, although i'm expecting he will just go to bed when he is finished setting up as he has worked hard this week, and lost plenty of sleep with midnight vet visits.

My two kittens are Fred and Ginger. Ginger is ginger, a bit obvious really, and Fred is a chocolately black. Both have quite longish fur, especially their big bushy tails, and are very mischevious. Ginger is quite timid around people, and fred is a real happy chappy and spends his whole life purring. Even when really ill.

when we had them at the cattery, the lady owner said that it is common to have pairs called fred and ginger. I thought fred would be pretty unusual myself.

ginger is currently whining to go out, and i am being a bit mean and not letting him. I am a bit scared that he will get hurt too, and without DH being here i wouldn't dare do a trip to the vet along dark country roads.

I know what you mean about a lack of adult company Zed. Currently i am feeling it as well. I'm glad DH will be off work on Monday as i'm fed up of being stuck indoors and not doing much. Oh well.

I'm off now to watch CSI. I might even just go up to bed so naughty ginger can go to sleep. He keeps getting on my lap top bag and using it as a scratching post. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the one work provided, and i will end up having to explain why it is damaged.

    anyway, enjoy your evening
