I would say strictly no presents please. Couldn't be clearer and no need for anyone to feel embarrassed not bringing a present in fact the opposite.

I do think you're over complicating things, sorry :o

I would have thought the girls would get invites from the party girl, and the boys would get invites from the party boy, so I'm sure the parents will buy a gift for the child the invite is from

I've been to shared parties parties with siblings of different ages and the majority have only bought a present for relevant child.

Why would you want no presents?

I had a joint party a few years back, with a girl form my sons form, a bowling party, and the other mother fretted like yourself, i was quite straight and said i'd rather not have it an issue and the kids get whatever they get, i was extremely embarrassed by the thought of her asking for an extra present.
In the end every guest actually bought 2 presents!
The parents at our school have always had the unwritten rule of keeping it under a fiver.
We don't need to closet our little darlings and protect them from everyone of lifes eventualitys, explain to your child that the other kid might get a few more she might get a few more, but hey no big deal, birthday is about spending time having fun with friends and that her day will be amazing regardless if the other child has a present or two more.

If they are inviting the whole class even if they only get a present from half the class each that's around fifteen presents. Way too much!

Most people spend around £10 per child now which I think is way too much and makes it very expensive to accept all invitations.

Children get plenty of birthday presents from family alone IMO.

The issue isn't about the other child getting more presents, the issue is that if we invite 45 kids I really don't want my kid getting 45 presents, thats way too much.

I am not fretting about it I am asking for what other peoples opinions are, the other mother involved wants us to put something on the invitation about presents and i wondered what other people thought about that.

You are worrying about nothing, let people decide themselves, if you are wary of so many presents ask your child to donate some to a childrens ward/ care home etc.

Wow, that's a big class

Theres 40 in the Reception year split across two classes of 20 but the teaching is done with all the kids mixed in groups across the classes so they all know each other.

Then with friends from swimming/cricket/football/rainbows/dancing I think there will be 45 at least.

This year DS1 asked his friends NOT to bring him a present but to donate an Easter egg to a local children's charity instead; I was SO proud of him!!!
