You have to pay for goods or services you have used, but only to an acceptable value.

If the bill is £30.00 and you think (because of quality issues etc etc, not beacuse you just think it is a bit expensive) the experience is only worth £20..00 then ou offer £20.00- it's up to them to accept it - or not. You are not refusing to pay. That is the crucial point.
    baldly going on...

Been to Malt shoverl now - heres a a brief rundown.

Service slow, pub and restaurant almost empty at 2.30 pm tho they would not let us book. No table service any longer - had to book meals on our own piece of paper at the bar(had to write it down as we were a party of 8. No real issues with food tho service was slow as I said and we had to wait quite a while though at the time we ordered we were the only ones eating in the restaurant.

One of our party had to send his steak back as he asked for it medium rare and they gave him well done and was told by the girl waiting that they didnt really do it medium rare.. He was served his chips and ate them then was given a steak on an empty plate when most of us had finished main course. Also one of our party ordered a hot chocolate afterwards that was almost cold.

My only problem was the portions. Aside from profiteroles the size of jumbo doughnuts??? I found the normally generous portions there really scratty and I only have a tiny appetite. I actually had to make myself some toast when I got home.As I knew the puddings there were normally niceand the portions very generous of all courses., I did not have a starter and only had a light main course of a salad. This consisted of approx 4 strips sweet potato and same of asparagus,a hint of rocket and a coupla teeny cubes of stilton.Pudding was also very tiny which i ordered deliberately to fill me up.

One of us ordered a cheese board as his portion of greek chicken was tiny and offered to share with my flatmate as they usually get loads. This consisted of three small cubes of cheese, a coupla thin sticks of celery and a tiny tiny pot of chutney. He ate it all and was still hungry.

Have to say I have never come home from a meal feeling hungry before and at £6.45 for my main course and £4.50 for the dessert felt this was quite a rip off even at those prices. One expects some food LOL

Summer please pm me details of how to give them feedback.

Decent food does not come cheap, this I would pay for a nose bag trough at my drinking hole. For me a steak would start at £13, and would be a minimum of a fillet, not some T-bone with pepper sauce. If I want to eat food like that, I would go to a burger place. I do not eat burgers!

Freddie I dont eat steak so dont know what the cost of theirs was.All meals were paid for my flatmates mother as this was for Fathers Day.TBH for £6.45 for my salad, I would expect more than 4 thin strips sweet potato, 4 thin half asparagus sprigs and 3 miniscule cubes of stilton with some rocket the size of a garnish.

On previous occasions there we have been charged much less for HUGE portions and all good quality food it used to be too. We expected more form this restaurant which we picked after many great experiences there over the past few years.

Thanks baldelectrician, that's really what I was trying to agree with the assistant manager but no joy, she was rude rude rude!! If I had known my rights at the time I would have insisted she take my name and address and get the manager to call me when he was free to sort things out

I'll know for next time thanks to everyone who posted here :A

Hi Reverbe, sorry to read your two posts, I thought you'd have a good experience as they were already aware of the problems.. especially being Father's day. I would put money on the fact I was not only one who complained on night we were there as other customers didn't look too pleased..

Did you speak to a manager or anyone at the time?

Maybe new chefs or something but I wasn't impressed at all..

The profiteroles were large but they were dry and horrid, and served with pouring cream . Not the lovely ones you used to get in their restaurants, oh distant memories flooding back :p

    This thread doesn't surprise me.
I work for the same company as this outlet, though not the same chain.
Head office are cutting staff, cutting portion sizes and its all about volume rather than quality.
Its becoming increasingly embarrasing working in my outlet and I haven't had a pay rise in 4 years.
can I just point out though that, although for times like fathers day places do put on as many staff as possible, its not possible to "magic" new staff out of thin air for one day as people seem to think.
complain to head office, maybe they will get the message.

Not poisoned, no police called - can we call that an improvement ;)

    :rotfl:

Seriously though Money_Grabber13579, I read your earlier post re cuts - it's such a shame as their reputation will suffer if the quality goes down...
