Best one I had was an irate customer wanting a reccomendation for a game, so he was passed to me for my area of knowledge, he then complained because I was a girl!

That's geeks for you, they can't think of a good game to play with a girl ;)

Funny thing is, when we used to have console demos on the shop floor, I used to take on (and beat!) quite a few of them, still they disliked me XD

Absolutely right. I have a not insignificant number of customers who think that it's fine to chat on the phone or to a friend and completely ignore me when I'm serving them. It's incredibly rude.

Yep, and then when you have to ask them a question about their purchase or something, they look at you like filth because you interrupted them!

And Zomg girls can't play games, stop spreading your lies!

I recently lost my wallet in Asda.I was blissfully unaware of it untill a member of staff called me on my mobile(The info was in my wallet).I went along with a box of chocolates but was told that they could not accept gifts from customers even if it was a thank you gift.I ended up buying a thank you card.

Recently went to a gaming convention - over 1000 people went, and i'll be damned if I saw more than 40 females there XD

I had a rather odd woman today.

She came up to the TV department asking if we sold torch bulbs.

I told her that we do not, and she started huffing and puffing.

"Where can I get them, then!" she demanded (it wasn't a question, not in that tone of voice).

"If we sell any at all, might I suggest the lighting department, just across the floor, or the small electrical department on the ground floor?"

More huffing and puffing and muttering.

She started to leave, so I started serving somebody else, only for her to come back and get quite uncomfortably close and say, "Where are your batteries, then?"

"On the other side of the computer accessories," I replied.

    "Exactly!"

    She then stormed off.

    Weird cow.

Times like that make me wish I had a nice office job, but retail is in all honesty, rather fun,

Isn't that a bit like inverted snobbery? Grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side you know.

Sadly my "nice office job" doesn't often permit me to work set hours and finish on time or get paid overtime or get staff discount...

No it is still unfortunately just a place for retail staff to whine about their customers

many years ago i used to work in a supermarket - when i worked on the cigarette kiosk it was based in the glass lobby of the store .. during a heatwave i was feeling sick and dizzy and asked a customer to alert the desk as i was about to pass out - said customer went to the customer service desk and alledged i had refused to serve her!! a manager came out to find i was passed out on the floor with a customer who was leaving the store on the counter trying to fan me with a pizza she had purchaced (her oh was trying to alert staff to the situation) the 1st customer still wrote a letter to the manager complaining about my misconduct!!!

the general public often view supermarket staff as the lowest of the low, a sub human race, unworthy of human rights!

get a grip public - you need your weekly shop and could not do without those supermarket staff who make it possible!

It sounds like your employers view you as the lowest of the low if they left you in such poor working conditions that you passed out due to the heat.
