Although it does amaze me the amount of people who will ask vital questions during or after the sale. For example, I had a lady last week who bought a set of batteries for her cordless phone, then afterwards, got the original out and asked me if the ones she'd bought would be OK. They weren't.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Bill Gates walks in to your shop, he says "I bought this from you 2 months ago and its not working now"
Shop assistant says " Yes Sir I'll get the manager for you Sir!"
Manager says " We are so sorry Sir have a new one with these free accessories! Sorry Sir!"
I walk in to your shop and say " I bought this Yesterday, Its not working Now"
Shop assistant says " You dropped it!"
I say "Can I speak to a manager please?"
Shop assistant says " The manager is not available, call customer services on this premium rate phone number and talk to them, Goodbye"
The root of all customer anger! you work in a customer environment, live with it!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
I would never work in a customer facing role now; a significant minority of people are so rude.
If you want to see an example, stand outside any tube station in London when people are handing out free papers and see how many people grab them without saying thank you or without making any acknowledgement of the person handing them out.0 -

many years ago i used to work in a supermarket - when i worked on the cigarette kiosk it was based in the glass lobby of the store .. during a heatwave i was feeling sick and dizzy and asked a customer to alert the desk as i was about to pass out - said customer went to the customer service desk and alledged i had refused to serve her!! a manager came out to find i was passed out on the floor with a customer who was leaving the store on the counter trying to fan me with a pizza she had purchaced (her oh was trying to alert staff to the situation) the 1st customer still wrote a letter to the manager complaining about my misconduct!!!
the general public often view supermarket staff as the lowest of the low, a sub human race, unworthy of human rights!
get a grip public - you need your weekly shop and could not do without those supermarket staff who make it possible!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I've worked in retail since I was 17 (22 now), and have experienced the bad, and good of it all. Customers buying you a box of chocolates, or even just a can of cola (as much as we love happy customers, wouldn't accept a fresh coffee), to police having to escort you home because someone tried to assault a member of staff and threatened to kill you all (yes, this happened, and he was caught), once you've experienced it all, you understand it more. If i've experienced excellent customer service, I will respond to it, however possible, whether its a box of chocolates, a large tip, or a really positive thankyou letter to the company, and believe me, its all very much appriciated, what goes around comes around and all.
I have only ever been angry to a customer once, and that was rather recently - she was in a queue, was interrupting all the staff telling them they had to deal with HER and her alone, dispite customers being in front and politely being informed that we would be a while, and in the end, after 3 warnings (which made me angry, none of the staff have ever heard me speak above a customer in a serious tone, it took for me to grab the phone to call the police before she walked out, screaming profanities at us.
Times like that make me wish I had a nice office job, but retail is in all honesty, rather fun, I like talking to customers and have met some fantastic people through it all, and had a lot of laughs when I worked in video game retail, the store went from 4 blokes and one girl to 4 girls in a matter of months, so many males were confused, and several offended by the sight! Best one I had was an irate customer wanting a reccomendation for a game, so he was passed to me for my area of knowledge, he then complained because I was a girl!~*Cerenia*~
