Victory I'm sorry to hear about your marriage break up, I hope things work out as well as they can under the circumstances, for all concerned.
The orienteering sounds fab Vixstar! Congrats on the win! I'm devoted to the trails as I think everyone knows by nowI find it so much more pleasant getting away from traffic and civilisation, whether that's for jogging, cycling or walking.
Bananasplit good result with the BP! My weight loss 'revealed' that a post-pregnancy fatty lump above my stomach was in fact a hernia. Luckily I was able to get that mended and avoid possible future complications
Hi Michelle welcome to the thread! As you've successfully lost weight before you know you CAN do it! Hopefully this thread will help keep you focusedYou've identified what you think the 'problem' is, so that's a great start - I would say make a plan for the first month even if it's just a few small changes at first, you can always up the ante later on!

wooo bananasplit, sounds ace. I used to love the backstreet boys. Tink, I do sw online and find it's great - they do it under the name of bodyoptimise, but it's the same thing. Have a look at their site. If you want to hqave a look at the members stuff, pm me and i'll arrange to make my password available to you for a set time so you can have a scoot around and see if it's for you. For me, the online food diary is a godsend, the articles are usually interesting, and the recipes can be very inspiring.0

Hello
Great advice being given to our newbies. I can only reiterate what they've said, and from my own experience can absolutely recommend logging your daily food intake, either in a written diary, or online. I believe the online ones like foodfocus.com are more accurate, and can make you better aware of where your 'hidden' calories have been going. It also makes you better aware of portion sizes too.
My top tips would be:
1. Record all the food that passes your lips (even the sneaky mouthfuls - they all add up) and be honest with yourself
2. Portion Control - I started using one of the kids smaller plates to stop me over-eating. I can easily eat as much as a male bodybuilder, but I shouldn't!
3. Get rid of the 'naughty' treats in the house ASAP. I have 4 children, but we do not have sweets in the house, although I do buy them crisps (but ones I don't like very much). Swap them for healthier, lower calorie treats, so you don't go without completely.
4. Don't get hungry. Keep your body fuelled at regular intervals. If you go without, thinking you're 'being good' you'll be more likely to be tempted for something totally calorie laden in a 'weak' moment. That is just human nature; you make your body feel hungry that much, but it's hot-wired to keep you alive by eating, so if it feels totally starved, it seeks out the most calories it can (danish pastries while you're shopping hungry ).
5. Carry 'emergency' snacks with you when you can. I keep a 200 cal snack bar in my handbag at all times (a slimfast bar would be similar, but I prefer low GI high protein ones), so that I don't need to get caught hungry, and facing the prospect of fast food eateries as my main option.
6. Make small changes, and keep making them. They all add up, and combine to make big changes. Don't leave the clean washing on the bottom stair, go up & down a couple of times. If you've run out of milk, walk to the shop, rather than drive. I now bike the boys on the schoolrun, rather than drive, but on the return trip I take a longer route, to do more miles. Find exercise that you can enjoy, not that you endure.
There was a programme on TV recently that showed that people under-estimate their food intake (volume & calories) by almost 50% - that could be 3000 calories instead of the suggested 1500!
This is certainly the right place to be to get lots of hints, help, advice and oodles of support. We do bad days, good days, wobbly days, super-naughty days, and super-fantastic days. The key is to post regularly, so that we can get to know you.One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
