what an emotional day I have had at the car boot sale today, I have always wanted ghd hair straighteners and as you know they are well over £100 so never had them, always had the ones at boots that are trillions less than that and do the job:D so car boot sale today, there they are, all boxed, looking lovely, young girl tells me the whole story of why she no longer uses them, how she now has pink ones, how old they are, assurances they work, lovely girl, chatting away, asks £40 offer £30 get them for £35, so over whelmed that I have finally got them, clutch them to my chest, beaming smile, rush off to the car, can't wait to get home, run in, throw everything down, switch on the hairs straightners and nothing, not working, can't believe it, seemed such a lovely girl, seemed honest and true, get back i nthe car, drive back to the car boot sale, can't find her, both me and OH running up and down the lines to try to spot her , finally do, lost it, called her a liar, her mother comes over, asks what goes on, I go on about being ashamed of yourselves, how could you do this? have you no shame, her father comes over and tells me she is not trying to rip me off because they do work as she has some pink ones,I tell father £35 is a lot of money to me and I cannot afford to be ripped off like that and how did they think they were going to get away with it? I loose it some more when the other takes them out of the box and says 'but they feel quite warm':rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:they do work, you just don't know how to switch them on:rotfl:(try putting them in the plug socket, wait for the red light to come on and off and that is that but no red light, no fuse changing helped, nothing, dead) get money back and walk off muttering aobut how ashamed you should be... lesson learnt...never aim for something higher than you are/can afford, it was not meant to be me having something that I could not afford:rolleyes:
Cooked the one pot meatball stew from the economy gastronomy book and they all loved it so much no one spoke at the dinner table, says serve with crusty bread which I did and they never uttered a word dipping the sauce into the bread and eating it up completely:D the belly pork disaster has been thrown out but I am using much more my freezer and if I can possibly help it (including their packed lunch sandwiches that they do not eat) I freeze it for another day, waste not want not but like OH says in the end you are going to have a freezer full of odds and ends and then throw it all out as nothing will go :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Would the fat not rise to the top so you could skim it off Victory?

I once, when I was young and enthuusiastic with time on my hands, made sausages ,look away now if squeamish,(from pigs' cheeks and other strange but lean bits) in real sausage skins. They were - it I say it myself - gorgeous. No one else liked them becasue they weren't greasy enough! Still it saved me loads of time becasue I've never made then again.

Welcome CC. if you want to post your wiehgt loss every week please do it in bold, bright, large font so that I spot it. The chart goes up on Wednesday, some time after 6.00 p.m. (Sometimes considerably later :o)

hehe granny you do make me laugh!

Victory: Such a shame they don't work, but at least you got your money back. If that were me i wouldnt have tried them straight away and then by the time i found out if would have been too late. I find Remmington ones to be pretty good, the one i had before was probably as good as my GHD's for 3/4 of the price so sometimes things are very over rated! Im trying not to use my straightners anymore and im trying to use less make up. Dunno why really...

    Evening all.

Welcome CC. Do you have a particular plan you are following for your weightloss? I returned to the thread in January, and have managed to lose/maintain with calorie counting and working extra physical activity in to my days where possible.

Well, I didn't get digging in the garden in the end, because I had such a dreadful night's sleep. I have had months of it now, and last night I saw too many silly o'clocks, and then had the 'heeby geebies' in my legs to make it worse. No idea why it's happening, as I don't feel I have anything dwelling in my mind. So apart from doing a morning of ironing, I've taken things easy, watched the F1 and read my book, which was a real tear jerker too.

Victory - I am planning to watch Economy Gastronomy on the iplayer, as have missed the episodes so far. I think I could only introduce foods that the family like... there's no way any of my lot would eat belly pork. The only pork they will ever eat is the sticky ribs from the Chinese when we have a takeaway. Perhaps even if, as your OH says, you have frozen bits and bobs, you can then have a night where you have several different dishes to choose from, a bit like a takeaway.
Well done on taking the GHD's back. They should heat up in less than 30 seconds if they are working. I have some, a treat to myself after selling lots of stuff on ebay a couple or so years back. I bet that girl nearly died when you reappeared... funny when you think about it huh?
Granny - that's so right that when you're younger, and have the time, and yes, the inclination, you're so enthusiastic about making food. I used to bake elaborate cakes and biscuits, pastries and various pies all from scratch, and would spend a day in the kitchen. When I had my eldest very little, we'd do bake days together, and make cards, gift tags and even giftwrap. Now it's just like feeding a small army each day, so it's just a means to an end - usually to shut them all up nagging that they're hungry (feeding 5 men is hard work)!

Vix - mash can be scrummy if you make colcannon mash with leeks and cabbage mixed in, but a decent knob of butter needs to be in there too for it to be truly scrumptious. One of my family's favourite meals is bangers n mash, but I make wigwams out of a triangle dollp of mash, sausages leant up against it, with either beans or veg all around the bottom, and a swirl of gravy or ketchup on top.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home
  • wow, victory, what a lovely suprise those flowers were!! And flowers 'just because' score far higher than 'I've got to coz it's your birthday':j:j.
LOL on your gastronomy exploits - total result with the meatballs though, so sounds like it is worth persevering. Some new ideas are bound to be more liked than others.
Sary - the programmes have been really interesting. I can quite image it is very hard work feeding 5 men. In fact, living with so many males of the species must leave you feeling a little outnumbered at times!

Welcome CC - do join in for max motivation.

I've got the salter electronic scales too which i love. Think I got them at argos, where my nectar points(free for entering metre readings online) get me money off.

I was sure I would have put weight on this week, as a few days at my parents but I am still sts (not official granny). Just shows if I actually tried harder it wouldn't be that difficult to lose some:rolleyes:.

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD weekend here.

As many of you know, my daughter has been rather sick, so been eating anything and everything., so she got taken into hospital tonight. Running some scans etc, to check her kidneys and appendix . So time will tell.

Tomorrow I take mum down to the graveyard as it's the anniversary of my dad's passing on Tuesday.

So atm feel as if my bladder is too near my eyeballs. Well at least i'm peeing less :o
    4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j
  • Really sorry to hear about your dd mazza: and for not picking it up in last post. At least she is somewhere where they will look at it properly now and can hopefully control the pain. I had a rumbling appendix in my late teens/early 20's - got taken in 3 times before they diagnosed it and the pain was awful.
Not suprised you can't focus on eating good foods at the mo if stress is a usual trigger for you. Hope you get better news tomorrow.. And sounds like a difficult week for you anyway, so sending supportive vibes

gs the fat would have risen but the greasiness had got into the gravy and it tasted greasy and over yucky:rolleyes: it stayed in your mouth, I did skim the pulses off them and made quesadillas from the economy gastronomy (determined to not throw it all away) with avocado and coriander on top and the kids and OH loved the freshness of those, they had them for lunch and were lush, the kids were asking for more so it was a success and a production line in the kitchen:Dlove the book, went to see 'julie and julia' at the cinema where she cooks all the recipes from the book, seen as I have nothing else to do will do that with the economy book:rotfl::rotfl:OH says there are lots of recipes there that are what the farmers/workers would have like a potage, stew, all in one pots and they rely heavily on tomato sauses with a bit of seasoning, he has never been keen on stew pots dinners and the kids are not that impressed so now going on to the chicken side of the book, we are having cottage pie tonight but with chicken, no great fans of red meat in this house:D used the potato ricer what a pain that is, put the potato in that splurts everywhere, the kitchen wrecked, pull the lever down which is incredibly hard and even more so if you are arthritic and then you get little tiny worm like potato come out the other end, strange, now I have it I am sure I can live without it:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I am also making chocolate cake that has been requested by eldest,(the phase will soon wear off, I like my kitchen to be clean and tidy not trashed for one meal, then I opened the freezer and all the peas came crashing out!!)
Cuban chicken tomorrow from the book.sary highly recommend the show, love it and the book is fab, pictures and all:D

  • thanks for the book recommend victory - I am tempted. I have loads of unspent booktokens over a yr old - I have got so loathed to buy new books, I always get them from the library(but this one wil be too new) Maybe I'll go and have a browse at this one in a bookshop and take the plunge.

Breakfast of quorn burger & poached egg. Off to a friend's for a light healthy lunch (she's doing ww) and a walk in the sunshine with her along the seafront. Still feeling quite delicate so this all hits the right note.
Laters, plan to be working on mosaic projects and possibly even a quick trip to art shop for a few extra supplies for that - I love having birthday money to fritter on fun as I please:D

Oh, and beanie -I wish you had someone to buy you flowers too.
I haven't been brought flowers since our first date 7 yrs ago... I have been brought funghi though...

I think what you are refering to there scary, is more southenly known as a, "Volcano" But I would swap the sausages with bacon and then have beans cascading down and resting at the bottom :p My mum used to make that for me when she had something gross.

I put milk and butter in my mash but that still doesnt account for the effort of boiling potatoes and then having to mash the !!!!!!s, then theres the washing of the masher, the washing of the collander...however you spell these words...the washing of the sauspan lid cos all the water will go everywhere with my electric hob... the list goes on. I forgot about peeling the spuds aswell!!!!!! now that i HATE more than the other lot.
