They don't like vaseline so if you rub some near the point at which they are getting in, it should stop them. Environmentally friendly, too!

If the nest is far enough away for smells not to be a problem paraffin works a treat, no need to set light to it, works for wasps and hornets too !

and drunk ants make good entertainment!

:rotfl: now this I have to try for entertainment value alone!

good old kettle of hot water in the "nest" has never failed here. I also heard that sprinkling tea tree oil around your doors is a good deterrent too. Never used it myself though so can't speak from personal experience

found myself one evening with no ant repelent what so ever and they were coming in over the door step under the door and into the living room so decided to put down double sided sticky tape. It wasn't a long term plan but it was an evenings entertainment watching them struggling to get off the tape:rotfl: Appologies to any insect loving people out there.
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

just been looking at an old thread for Avon Skin-So-Soft Soft&Fresh dry oil body spray for anti mozzie lotion and found a list showing loads of things that it does and one of them was to spray this SSS round door frame to stop them coming in. Not tried it but it seemed to be well liked on that thread! It's on offer at the moment for £2 150ml in latest Avon book. I believe you can also go on line to buy too.

Give them to me! Seriously, I bought an ant farm thing for the kids but i don't have any ants here. If you would be interested in picking some up and posting them to me I'll be happy to cover your expenses. Only after 10-20. LMK ;)

Go to the supermarket and buy a tin of RAID. Squirt it around windowsills and doors inside and out. Go around your skirting boards and do your front and back step.

    Anywhere you see ants, squirt!

It sticks to surfaces and lasts for days/weeks but reapply as often as you see them.

Keep skirting boards free from clutter and give your rooms a good hoover to get crumbs that collect under furniture.
Just run, run and keep on running!

I use Nippon - I know it's not ecofriendly, and I also have young children to worry about - when they have gone to bed I put a few small squares of cardboard on the side with a small drop of Nippon on each and just make sure that I get up before the kids to remove them (stair gate at top of stairs for extra security). The Nippon seems to get the ants drunk as well and I know it's a bit cruel but they are hilarious after they've been drinking it for a while and they try to walk str8!! They fall off the edge and go round in circles and all sorts!! - Have never heard of talc/vodka though (vodka - children = must b as careful as with the Nippon - obviously)

I have a device that you plug in a nd it sends out some sort of high frequency noise that sends them scurrying out of the house. It was about £50 but worth it. As soon as I spot an ant in the spring time I plug it in. I also take it abroad with me. I bought it on line, its called from Pestclear 2000.
