I used to have an ant problem in my flat. I checked first that they were not Pharoh ants (which are a devil to get rid of, if you kill the nest any ants that survived can make several new ones!) Once I found out they weren't I put down curry powder which stopped them pretty much immediately. I think it messes up their sense of direction as they use their sense of smell to navigate. It also doesn’t kill them, just keeps them away.

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

we had huge ant problem last yr and got some "Raid Crack & Crevice" <snigger snigger> ant killer

its fab ! its got a long straw like applicator (like WD40 ) and its easy to spray into gaps in skirting boards / floorboards etc one application lasts weeks

havent had any since : )

Where did you buy it from? We saw our first ants of the year yesterday - do you think they have a built-in clock and they all come out on the same day?

Hi all, and many thanks for your tips on my ant problem!!!

They are coming in from the outside, and out through the skirting board into the kitchen.

I have two cats , so need to watch what i put down, as they find it amusing playing with the little critters!!

Must admit , one thing that has worked, is a trail of talcum powder, that someone suggested on this thread. I havent seen any in the kitchen since!!
Mind you, my young son wasnt amused to see me using his Johnsons Talc to sprinkle round the skirting boards.

Im not holding out much longer as we all know the bloody things will find another way to get in.

Thanks for sharing all your tips, as its great to be able to help out one another.

im sure i got it in Co Op

you can also use it as a preventative to try and stop them getting in in the first place

so round doors / windows cracks in floorboards etc

i must do mine again before they appear again !!!

last summer in desparation I went to the shed to find anything to kill ants. I had gone through everything and even paid for pest control to come out.

I found WD40 I knew where they were coming from so i put the straw in the little gap and sparayed. Went for a bath

1/2 later arghhhhhhh every where they where fleeing the nest (eggs included on their backs) I sprayed again, swept them up and no more ants.

    Hooray!!

Cheers Rachie B, I'll check out my local Co-op then. Went into Wilko at the weekend but couldn't find it there.
  • I'm gonna get invaded!!

Every year i have lots of ants in my garden and last year thay were all over my house. Yesterday i found two in my kitchen so they are back!!

    Any suggestions to get rid??
  • You may have to resort to a commercial anti-ant product, such as Raid, but as a first try sprinkle everywhere there is a crack with talc and then leave it overnight -that has worked for me in the past when there have only been one or two inside, and it does work outside too.
