Alegedly they won't cross chalk or peppermint oil so you could try putting that all around the edge of the room :-/

We had a similar problem in the kitchen and found the best stuff was the nippon ant trap - I think they sell it in supermarkets and wilko's. You put syrupy stuff in and they take it back to the nest and it kills the lot of them.

Other than that it's find the nest and powder it rather than remove it (cause any that aren't in the nest get infected and can't go on and make a new nest elsewhere).

We found a massive nest under the patio by the kitchen and, as we were replacing the patio anyway, toasted the whole nest with a blow torch - that kept them away for a couple of years!!

Hmmm toasted ants - maybe this should be on the recipe board. :-X

as for moths, i had problems with these in an old wardrobe some one gave me. On a friends suggestion sprayed the inside with a tea tree oil mixed with water in a garden sprayer every week for about 6 weeks, never had anymore after that, well worth a try.

I think I read this somewhere else on the site, but cayenne pepper in the ant holes, or around where they're getting in is supposed to work.

Oh yes, also if you find the nest, a kettle full of boiling water quietens them down.

We had this problem too (a line of ants marching into the food cupboard). If you can find the entry point, then chilli powder stops them coming in for a bit.

But the final (and best) solution was ant powder across the entry point, which stopped them completely.

    Hope someone can help!

I have noticed a lot of ants on my patio. Just appeared today-did try to move a large pot left by previous owner so think that might have disturbed them.

Any ideas on how to get rid?

    Thanks!;)

There's a thread here on ants that may have something in it .

"The simplest method to rid yourself of ants is to pour boiling water on their nests.

A mixture of two parts powdered borax and one part sugar placed near their nest or on their trail is also fatal."
