Ants In My New Home Help Me Please!!!

We were infested last year with the little buggers and I tried all sorts of chemical and non-chemical remedies. Found that ants don't like walking over powdery substances. So if you know where they are entering you can liberally surround that spot with chalk dust. Then just outside of the entrance hole and inside of the chalk line use some nippon gel or powder (gel is best for ease of cleaning and cross contamination - can get them both from diy sheds).

Over time (days/weeks depending on the size of the nest), you should find that less and less ants will emerge from that particular hole for a couple of reasons. Firstly because you are hopefully reducing the size of the colony, and secondly because the ants are not using that trail anymore because of the lack of food collected from it. You are basically discouraging them from entering because there is nothing to be gained. Hopefully you will have destroyed the colony after a few weeks.

An added chemical you can try, which I think put the final nail in the coffin of our colony, is a lacquer type spray that again you can spray along known ant trails or around entrance holes. It dries to form a lacquer that although doesn't kill ants on contact, it kills them half an hour later - so no mess to clear up! Called Dethlac and is available from garden centres - never seen it in diy sheds. Can be used on hard surfaces inside and out and once dry it's harmless to animals and kids.

Ant stop is the best. Tried everything else and nothing worked. Used it last summer and ants have not re-appeared since.
