Our kitchen cupboards have been invaded by ants tonight, the problem is we can't find where they are coming from. I have cleaned all the food jars with Stardrops in the hope that they aren't Money Saving Expert ants and don't like Star Drops.

I'll make use of some of the tips on here tomorrow, thanks.

Pepper is good too for those who dont want to kill them. WE put a food source outside the front door to distract them and then 'peppered'the doorstep. We moved the food away from the house a foot at a time over a day and haven't had ants inside since :)

We sprayed white vinegar all round the back door and bin area (block of flats). They seemed to hate it and ran round madly and even though there were loads of them all over the bin area, they'd completley gone in a couple of days. :)

Sweep or vac them up. Then give it 20mins and you should be able to see where they are coming in from or where the nest is if it's inside.

They used to come in under my back door, so I put a few drops of pure lavender oil just inside. They HATE lavender. They find there way around by scent and this masks it.

DO NOT use near pets. I cannot remember why, but this is bad.

If the nest is out side I have used Nippon with great success. but that is the squeezy one, not the powder. The powder was a waste of time.

Good luck, they creep me out.
Depression is well Depressing. So I go shopping. Then I realise how much debt I'm in. Then my depression hits low and so I go shopping...

    I'm a little jealous.
I got an ant farm for christmas. There was an option to buy some ants to go in it, but obviously I'm not going to pay for them when the kitchen will be full of the little blighters soon.

I read somewhere if you mix sugar with some kind of poison (boric acid?) and leave it in a saucer they carry it back to the nest. I've no idea where you would get boric acid so it's probably better to just buy the little plastic "stations"

I once left a baked potato in microwave too long. The microwave blew up and filled the kitchen with smoke. The ants all dissapeared and didn't come back for two years, although that's a rather drastic step.
