We have loads of ant nests, they are running around all over outside. We had them in the house, coming in under the skirting board so we put a nippon trap and they died off within a couple of days and have gone. The ones outside are a different matter. We have an ant run that runs right past the back door step.I have found that nippon has'nt worked there. They just come back by the next week so to stop them coming in the house I put a half a teaspoon of sugar down every couple of days. They are so busy with the sugar I've not had any more in the house. They are interesting little creatures though, you just have to admire them.

We had terrible problems with ants last year and came home from our camping hols to find a kitchen full of huge winged things ergghhhuuuu! I cant put down chemicals because we have 2 cats and 2 dogs so this year(I have already seen loads of ants running around outside the kitchen) am going to try some of the many ideas here! Curry powder is something I have loads of...only problem is one of my doggys actually enjoys running round the garden like an ant eater ,eating the little blighters. Let battle commence (well tomorrow anyway lol!)

I had some at my old place in the kitchen 4 years ago and couldn't get rid of them.

Since moving I thought that was the end of it, but tonight I found a couple on my tiled windowsill. Watched them for 20 minutes and found a tiny little hole they had made in the grout in the far corner. All I had at hand tonight was some fruit bug killer spray which works on ants too so sprayed loads of it down the hole.

May try and get a Nippon trap tomorrow and treat the outside of the house with a spray.

    Hi bubbs,

There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your post to it.

Nearly bedtime so too late to read through all the ant-repelling ideas. My dad always used sugar mixed with borax with excellent results. I have a recurring ant invasion on my kitchen window sill every year (hasn't started yet but I am waiting for it!), and as I couldn't find borax where I live, I now use a cotton wool ball with some drops of lavender oil which I put in their path. I refresh the oil about once a week and it keeps them away! It also smells nice in the kitchen.

this is just a guess but i would try and find where they are coming from (follow them) and then put a spoonful of sugar near to their "nest" it'll keep them busy for a while and stop them searching until you get some ant powder!

hopefully someone else will be along in a minute and give better advice
