i just managed to get a free sky+and free installation,,,really had to stand my ground tho and tell them i cant afford to give them anymore than i already do,,,and that i have had sky over 10 years and get treated like cr*p,,,and all the new customers get it all, blah blah blah,,,the guy was very good offered me about 3 different options which i turned down and said i would just go without,,,
then hey i got the free offer....have to wait a month for installation tho,,thankyou
  • i am pleased it worked out for you!

sky+ is great...even better when its free!!

I had to pay 49 pounds for a reconditioned box 4 years ago....but that was a good offfer at the time!

You are very luck to get installation in a week!! August seems ages away... perhaps they have had loads of people phoning up this week!! x:beer:

The reason that there are far away installation dates is purely down to stock availability. Each engineer in seperate areas has a certain allocation of boxes so you're just unlucky that your particular area has low stock levels. Most people are looking at mid august so your in the same boat as everyone else. As for people moaning about the price of boxes. Sky is obviously a business and its primary purpose is to make money so they aren't just going to offer free boxes whenever someone asks. The common complaint of "why does a new customer get ......... and i dont and i've been with you for years". well to secure business from a new customer is generating further profit for the company and getting someone garunteed for a further year and hopefully they'll become reliant and stay. The majority of people i would assume get really used to sky and dont really want to switch and will probably pay something for the equipment even after a big rant of "I'm going to virgin!". The bartering works both ways and can be fun at times! You need to be able to have a laugh so going mental down the phone using 'scare tactics' will probably get you nowhere fast.

It's always worth remembering why you're cancelling... everyone tries to drag you in with cheap deals on all sorts of stuff, and if price was your cancellation reason, go for it! Otherwise, you're barking up the wrong tree, if you're cancelling because the service is rubbish, three more months of rubbish service won't change a thing!

After reading this thread I too called Sky threatening to move to Virgin and was offered reconditioned Sky+ box and installation for £59. I see most of you got it cheaper, not sure why I didn't unless its coz I've only been with them almost 3 years. Anyway, I'm happy at that coz if I hadn't of read that I would have been paying full whack!

Tempted to try this, however, Virgin TV isnt available in my area - are Sky likely to call my bluff and check my postcode on Virgin's site??

ShaneUK - I can't get Virgin digital TV in my area either and told them I could (small white lie!) I also guesstimated the price and they don't check anything! Try it.

Looks like ill be making that awaited phone call tomorrow, free or i leave! ill go to virgin if they dont, even though i prefer sky.

Does this sound too harsh, i have been with them for around 4 years and have the phone/broadband/tv package so surely its in there interest to keep me sweet.
