That's a great site! :TIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Water well first, this will make it easier to pull them out. Grasp them firmly at the base.. and pull slowly but firmly. If you are pulling one out that is quite close to one you want to keep, hold the soil down (a finger either side of the stem) at the base of the 'keeper' to keep it in the ground.
When you have thinned out to your satisfaction, water again to settle the remaining ones back in.0 -
I ate a gooseberry this morning. :j
That was a mistake. They're not ready yet! :lipsrsealIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
When I was in B&Q, I also bought some radish daikon sprouting seed:
It tastes fabulous - really peppery and hot. It says on the packet that it's for indoor growing only. Why? What's stopping me from growing this to get the whole vegetable? It's only a kind of radish, after all....If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Right, the swedelings have gone from this (a week or so ago):
To this, after I just thinned them out:
Having read a bit on the gardenaction site mentioned by stilernin, it would seem that stones are the enemy of root vegetables. Which is a shame, as my "soil" is probably 25% pebbles.I guess there's nothing I can do about this until next year?

Aww...c'mon, I wasn't meant to count, was I?
I dunno. I just sprinkled a couple of lines. If you count the little green things in the top picture, well....a few more than that!
I've got a horrible feeling they'll have trouble because the ground's really stony. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Lol, no not count was just wondering how much of the packet you put in lol!! I'm loving your thread though! Underneath my raised bed is a little bit stony so we shall see! TBH I have been very surprised at how well things are growing lol! Oh!Not very much at all - probably no more than a quarter of the packet.
I'd try to be even more sparing next time - the germination rate was high, and most of them got chucked when I thinned them out.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
