Is there a preferred time of day to water stuff?

Yes, in the morning. But I've never got time so I water once in the evening when they need it. Some plants don't like to sit in cold water all night. Water close to the ground so you get the roots and not the leaves

Stick your finger into the soil and if it's dry then they need it. If it's still damp, they'll be ok.

Carrot seedlings take about 10 days to appear. :p

No idea about the lime, someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly.

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

The swede seed packet says that they may grow better with a bit of lime. I didn't add any before - is there any way I can add some now without disturbing the swedelings?

It's for fat people to put on their plate instead of chips, so they can convince themselves they're on a diet.

:rotfl:You are right - i'm fat!! Now the lettuce has gone - there is MORE room for the chips !! :D

  • mr bad example, aphids on chillis - either collect ladybirds and put them on chillis or spray in a plant spray with dilute washing up liquid - better still squash with fingers as many as possible and finally encourage hover flys with clever planting of purple flowers and they will eat them for you if the ladybirds don't get there first - I would go for the washing up liquid spray as it is probably urgent by now.

stand there, look closely and start squishing. follow mr miyagi, squish one, wipe away. squish one, wipe away. Soon, no more aphids.

Right then, squishing it is. My greenhouse is a risky place for flies to visit, on account of the carnivorous stuff. ;)

The aphids wish to complain about the squishing.

My next question is: How do I know when a root vegetable is ready?

I have some radishes planted - still only little seedlings at the moment, but how do I know when they're ready? What will they look like?
