The Egg account is 'new money only' and for the extra few % its worth jumping through a few hoops to get it.

Yes, 'new money' as in you can't transfer money directly from another Egg account to fund it, not as in for 'new customers' only which I assume is what you are assuming! ;)

Yes so if you had money in the 6.3% fix you have to transfer it to your non-egg account then back in again to egg which is a bit of a pain as they dont do faster payments out.

Egg's 2.50% account is better than either of those for ease of use ;)

I think I'd like to give the IF account a try, as I'm also thinking of opening an ISA account with them at the same time.

this is account is easy, but they do ask for a blood sample / next of kin / details of 3rd cousin twice removed on mother's side for security passwords etc..

Is it really that complicated to create a new account?

What are the general thoughts of those that have already created an account? Are they active yet? Is the sign up process really as ridiculous as some people suggest? Would it be best to sign up online or over the phone?

I'd appreciate it if anyone who has already been through the sign up process could just let me know if there's anything in particular I should look out for!

    Thanks guys!

The application process is really easy, yes they do ask some pertinent questions about income etc, but I suppose these days, they have to. You have to do everything online. I applied on saturday, got the forms on Monday, sent them straight back, but I pre-empted the situation and got into a bit of a mess when I logged on as it wouldn't accept my password. I rang them(not on the 0845 number:eek:) and they reset my password, but they said my account would not be activated for a couple of days as they have to do final checks and send the DD to my bank. All in all, quite painless!

Well that's reassuring, thanks for your response.

My account is now up and running. The only 'minus' as such is that the faster payments checker says it doesnt accept them but I have yet to test this.

When I log on they ask me to select products. Maybe it has not been fully set up yet.

What does this mean exactly? That payments in or transfers out will take a long time? How long are you looking at for the "standard payment" versus the "fast payment" options?

I'm applying for this, but it doesn't seem to like the sort code & accoutn number of my connected account. It's a standard Barclays current account. Am I being a bit thick here?

    EDIT: Yes, I was.

2-3 days in/out using BACS versus almost instant using faster payments.
