I think if your clothes were really dirty you could use them and half as much powder as usual.

I got the sample last week (about 10 bits , enought to make 4 whole nuts) and put some in the colours wash the other night and the whites wash last night.
I think I must live in an area where the water is so hard it goes out with two rotties and a machete!
The colours washing is probably clean but hard to tell as it is dark colurs. there is no smell) unless you count the faint water/washed nappy smell and the washing is definatley NOT soft! It didn't touch ANY of the dirt on my whites! I am really reluctant to let them loose on my DS#2s nappies.
I can't tell if they lather up coz my washing machine is on economy electricity and finishes at 5am - i dunno when it starts I don't hear it.
    Am I doing somehting wrong?
Maybe I should write to them and let them know...

I'm in a hard water area too. They dont lather up in the wash as far as I can tell. They probably wouldnt work on heavily soiled items or nappies but I would definately try using them with half as much powder as usual. Every little helps.

I bought a bag of these last week and put through a load of the boys stuff - usual grass stains etc and also a load with my sofa covers. I also bunged in some orange ess. oil for smell.

I used about 6-7 nuts for both washes and everything has come out lovely :D Really soft for a change. hard water here as well. Machine on 40C

If stuff isn't coming out clean then you probably need a few more nuts in there????

I've just ordered a 250g bag after using up the sample. I was quite impressed. I'm in a fairly hard water area and used the sample over about 6 washes. Had some money in my paypal account so used a little bit of that to pay for a bag, I'm hoping it will do me for quite a few washes. I don't have any particularly dirty washing (no kids!) so it might stretch quite a long way.

It says in the instructions that you need 6 halves of shells in each wash and each 6 halves lasts for 6 washes. I got got 30 shells in my sample. I didnt put the whole sample in the sock.

Just received mine and the wash is in the machine as I type - added 6 drops of May Chang essential oil. If I like how it washes, I shall order it, as it sounds very economical and ecological too!

Claire (nice lady who replied to my email) said I shoudl try them on DS#2s nappies as they will work.
So gonna wait for the rest of my sample and put all that in HWTHMBOs sock adn see what happens.

I have just asked for a sample too - they sound brilliant. I was going to start making my own soap powder but these sound better and ecological too. I do hope they work for me :)
