Got my bag of soapnuts on thursday, tried them today on a dark wash. I dont think i used enough but the stuff did come out clean and soft.
Also used them to wash my bathrobe which has cuffs stained with mascara... I do the classic wash and then wipe the excess panda eye with my robe so it gets filthy!!
Well it came out lovely and fluffy and only a small amount of mascara left which i think is because i didnt use enough nuts.
Anyway im now a convert, i wont be using powder again except for my white work shirts.0 -
Hi TrollyDolly, haven't seen you for ages! Hope you are keeping well - how's your new house coming along?
I'm sending away for my sample of soapnuts - I'm finding the whole concept rather bizarre yet fascinating at the same time. I can't wait to try them! I might even get some for a friend who has eczema - try and persuade her to use them though she associates the smell of a "summer meadow" or a "summer's day" as being clean. Rather an odd birthday present don't you think!? All in a day's work of an eccentric...

I am very impressed with soapnuts so far but they haven`t had a real test yet. Sheets and cooler washes etc did produce very good results and best of all no smell. Washing was nice and soft
I have a full load of darks in now and later will wash a white stained cotton bath mat. Fingers crossed and I`ll post the results later
I had a couple of old tomato sauce stains on a thick cream cotton jumper and wasn`t even going to try the nuts but I did want to wear the jumper again. I used the two remaining ariel tablets that I kept back from a year ago and they didn`t work but the residual smell when the items were drying has absolutely reminded me why I first went the ecover route and now the soapnut route. The chemicals getting on the skin is one of the big things that concern me.0 -
Now heres a question, can you use them in the dishwasher, as at present I use my washing powder mix, but wont be doing that once my soapnuts have arrived, I have ordered some without getting a sample first, as I trust all your reviews xPawpurrs x0

I have done 4 washes today with the same soapnuts and I am happy with the results. One full dark wash at 40, one white 60 wash, one sweaty cycling kit wash, one delicate fluorescent yellow cycling top.
Wonderful things these soapnute. I wish I had know about them when my children were small. Great for everyday washing and kind to the skin and environment (and purse!!)0 -

yes you can, I have only just started using them in the dishwasher and they work brilliantly!
I put 3 shells in the cutlery holder
filled the rinseaid with vinegar (white vinegar, but any will do)
and i put a lemon slice skewered on the top shelf (for that lemony freshness!) and bingo they are coming out clean and without the chemical flavour left behind by the washing powder or tabs.
i think i will have to soak my mugs with bicarbonate of soda every so often as some stains are still there but glasses come up shiny and plates and pans clean

OK, about a week ago I started a thread asking how to get the food residue & gunk out of baby clothes............seem to have found the answer! Soapnuts & soda crystals:D I live in a really hard water area, no froth but things seem clean, although I did wonder if it was beacuse my machine was working with powder residue in the pipes? Anyway, I have wimped out on the nappies & am using nappisan & soda crystals & vinegar:o Well, I need them in a hurry & didn't want to have to wait for a re-wash if the soap nuts failed, but I will try them next time. On the whole I am quite impressed & will be buying some:TPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

Brilliant news thanks xPawpurrs x0 -
I am delighted about the dishwasher news, as I used to buy Ecover tablets and stopped as they are a bit too expensive - then started to use the Earth-ruining ones with loads of baddies for the environment (but super cheap at Savers) and feeling guilty about that.
I have ordered the 250g pack but not received yet, but my sample is still going strong after 4 washes!
I am going to try and make shampoo with essential oils when I receive them and will let you know.
One question, though: has anyone ever used Soapwort? It is a root that contains saponin. I would be curious to see if it works like soapnuts but if it grows locally I'd favour it over something that is shipped across a couple of continents.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
