Received my sample this morning, which surprised me as I hadn't had any e-mail from them. I live in a very hardwater area so used about half (8) of the sample. I am very impressed!! Took the grass/mud stains out of the jeans I was wearing yesterday to garden. Also my son is back from college and brought home half his wardrobe, all dirty! So far it's all come up clean, even the soles of his socks! All "smells" (sorry!) neutralised! The washing smells clean, without smelling of anything iykwim? So far done two washes and I think they'll manage one more. Haven't done a white wash yet, so can't report on that. I'll certainly be ordering some even if only for coloureds and darks.

I suspect the reason why the free samples are more bits than shells, is because they're using up the bits and pieces at the bottom of the big bags, that they wouldn't want to include in the bags you pay for.

    I know I would, if I were them! :)

owww I'm quite excited about this (blimey thats really sad lol). I've tried using cheaper fabric cleaners like tescos own and I've been really dissapointed with the results. I live in a hard water area but if they do work as well as they say they do then this would be a much cheaper and friendly option for my washing especially as we all have really dry skin. :( And you can compost them!!! how fantastic is that. I've asked for a sample because I really can't believe that they are that good but if they are then I'll definately be ordering a bag full. :)

Trying to match up the broken bits that I received, I definitely have no more than 5 nuts! Seems like I got unlucky with this one.

I got about 5 nuts too - how many do we put in for a wash? is one sufficient? or do I use the lot?

Igot about 15 pieces of shell equating to about 7/8 nuts. The instructions say 6-8 half shells for a wash, and I used 8 because I'm in very hard water area. They worked really well for me. Hope that helps. Don't forget you'll get 3 or more washes from the same set of nuts.

I think this is a fantastic idea and many thanks to the OP. Have emailed for a sample but am so impressed just by the concept I'd probably pay to try them out anyway!

Still can't believe how they don't leave a residue in the rinse cycle - isn't there still soap in the final rinse? Or is it the case that there IS but it disappears in the final spin?
