My PC mouse currently has 10+ buttons
Pfft at you and your measly 4
I didn't want to start the old PC/Mac debate because it's been flogged, people have their own opinions/preference at the end of the day.
This is why I said in my first post in this thread, unless you are a professional designer/photographer/media person then a PC would probably be more suited.
I think Apple and Mac are much stronger over a standard windows PC anyday for this specific purpose. Other than that I wouldn't be sold on one.
To the person who said there is "no Windows Alternative to £2000 Macs" I wouldn't say that is entirely true. Custom builds are always possible which means you can get more for your money and build it more powerful than what might be available as a standard.
End of the day its what you know and want to go with.
We haven't had much response from the OP in terms of what the actual budget is and skillset with requiring "creative" programs. Probably best wait to see what the score is!
To the above (Rich44) I still have a computer with Windows XP that was built in around 2002 and it still works absolutley fine as a "in case of emmergency" system
Granted for a Mac to come with a 24" screen in 2005 is very good and shows why they are suited to what I have mentioned. For the price back then too! 0 -

Nice except the G4 Sawtooth came out in Dec 1999 lol
Sorry it didnt come with the 24" screen we bought that recently but like I say it didnt come out in 2005 thats when we bought it second hand on ebay I doubt there are many PCs of that vintage in use with Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3 etc in daily use0 -

Well gee whizz, it's not exactly the same as Windows, despite Microsoft's best efforts. You can't get alot more clearer than 'Start'
Ah yes, where you click the start button in order to turn your computer off. Very clear and intuitive.
Whereas on a Mac, all the applications are in the applications folder. How very confusing.whereas you have strange things like 'Finder' hogging up OS X's desktop.
Finder is just the OS X file manager, like Windows Explorer. I have no idea how it hogs anything up.Windows success has been proven: It is used in hundreds of different environments; Train Stations, Bars, Restaurants, Mobiles to name but a few. In fact, Windows professional is even used on the 'self service' ticket machines @ thorpe park... If that doesn't prove it's universal appeal and usability, I don't know what will.
Windows' success has little to do with how wonderful it is. If you're really interested, buy a book on the history of home computing.
Anyhow, the OP wanted something for photo editing and other digital media pursuits, where the Mac wins hands down. They don't want to run a cash register.0 -
Have you seen the new MacBook(Pro)!!!
I would recommend a MB(P) as they are in every way better than using the windows OS. As Bertrand Serlet said that windows suffers from the same underlying issues!
I used to like windows but when i used Vista i was put off the whole MS platform and jumped ship from Redmond to Cupertino and i can say to this day i do not regret it one bit!
Personally i cannot stand using a Windows computer, A MacBook Pro will cost more money but it will last far longer than a Windows will ever last and will be able to run the newest OS! My Colleague has a G4 and she can run Leopard - and it runs almost as fast as my Intel MacBook does - she cant run Snow Leopard because she has a PPC!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

Don't forget that it would need to include an update to Windows 7 (64 bit) on release for £10 extra.OK, find me a PC that you're going to get an integrated suite of photo, music, movie, web, and DVD authoring software with it. It also has to come with Vista Ultimate 64 bit. It has to have a store that you can take it to for repairs, advice, and training on using it. It also has to be able to natively run Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
If it could also be reasonably thin and light, and look really good too, that would be a bonus.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -

Ah, I wondered when that nonsense was going to rear it's ugly head.0 -
A minor niggle, easily corrected. My start button looks like a house!Ah yes, where you click the start button in order to turn your computer off. Very clear and intuitive.
I've never used a Mac myself, but the only thing about the interface that has ever bothered me is that the window controls are in the upper left-hand corner. Given time, I'd doubtless become accustomed to its foibles.0 -

Whilst i dont like to get sucked into Mac/PC debates, name me one thing that a PC can do that a Mac cant!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I'm not going to get into a circular argument like that because PC's can run OS X and Mac's can run Windows, therefore the gap between what can't be done is that slim it's not worth discussing. I was taking exception to the utter hypocrisy of the speech by your friend Bertrand.
Fairly typical reaction from Apple though really, it's clear Windows 7 is unnerving them somewhat so they've resorted to childish games like that though.0 -

I have a Mac and I think 3 PC's, loving the Mac as its a new toy but it wasn't cheap but I am using it daily and it has turned in to my daily computer. Using bootcamp just in case I need to run XP but so far only used it twice.
If you have the money I would go Mac as I intend to progress my pursue my photography hobby and luckily I have access to the software needed
Mac and PC its like lager and real ale drinkers or whiskey with coke and whiskey neat drinkers that they will always agree to disagree.0
