Hi all
well it appears that jobs are like buses- they all come along at once! OH has secured two jobs it appears...
1) full time in a warehouse ( I think that's 225 quid a week)
2) painting/decorating full time but more preparing surfaces, stripping wallpaper etc (I think that's 300 quid a week)
He got a call re the warehouse one today and spoke to someone about the painting one.
So I worked through a basic budget spreadsheet and if we pool everything together it leaves us with some stuff to play with. I then played around with the figures in front of him to show how our financial situation could change over the next few months ie in 3 months we'll have 250 a month more as one store account of mine will be closed. By xmas 2 credit cards will be gone so that's extra etc and I showed him what we should have left over each month. We spoke about having that put into my savings account then it's there for emergencies or holidays etc.
He was genuinely surprised by how much we could have spare in a few months with my pay rise and him being in full time work. I think he's very supportive of using some of the left over to pay off chunks of my debts so I/we are debt free a lot sooner and then a lot better off. Of course, there are going to be lots of things that crop up unexpectedly/half-expectedly but there'll be a contigency fund so no more lurching from crisis to crisis.
A positive start to the finance conversation...
