Bronnie, your so right about it being an emotional journey, it's huge, probably why it took the best part of 2 years to get my wardrobe to the way it is today. Part of me thought it was being wasteful to not keep the clothes, a bit of a throw back to when i was a child when i only had 3 outfits ant anyone time. This stiffled me for years, hence the huge wardrobe that moved house with me twice. I remember the day when i finnally realised this. DH and i where decorating our bedroom, and the wardrobe couldn't be moved because of the weight, dh insisted i emptied it, whilst i was doing this dh remarked 'god you have issues' we laughed, but never was there s truer word spoken. He was right, my house is very minimilist (less to clean) and i am so onto clutter, yet my wardrobe was the complete opposite. It was very therapeutic to finnally be comfortable in my own skin ( no guilt with a wardrobe of clothes that don't fit)

Gillian, i'd say that if the clothes don't fit or are not sentimental, then get rid. If you decide at a later stage to loose the weight don't you deserve a new wardrobe???

Bron, my make-up is in need of a clearout so shall we do another thread??? My nightwear and underwear needs a complete overhall too.

    Sharron

    Hi Sharron

Will you start a "Sorting out make-up" thread? Would be a good idea. I am utterly unconvinced by the idea of make up going out of date.....but will leave that to discuss on the new thread!!

My nightwear / underwear is minimal atm....don't normally wear anything in bed (very MS), just need some for lounging/hols /hospital emergencies!!!

The bras I buy are quite expensive and I usually replace after 6 months to get the best shape and support from them and cos I seem to be changing sizes all the time atm so I don't have a lot of them. I have stored away some nice fancy ;) sets, which are a size too small, but will keep as weight loss is on a bit of a roll atm.

jewellery has been reorganised thanks to some suggestions from this forum.....sticky hooks on the inside of the wardrobe door.....why didn't I think of that? And of course the ice cube trays for earrings!

    Keep posting !

you are all so brave. i never manage this "just in case" i fit into it. I bought clothes I vowed to slim into, i have clothes that don't fit, but by throwing them out, its like saying "yes you are a fat momma and there are no skinny clothes now, ner ner ner!" I just can't do it!! :(

  • Ladies you are a revelation! I have just read through this thread and I am taking the bull by the horns this weekend.
I have 2 wardrobes full of clothes and it is time they got cleared out:eek:

I have smart stuff for work as I dont have a uniform, loads of sportswear (play hockey through winter & wii fit atm), casual wear and some 'going out' clothes.

TBH it all needs pared back. I have a lot of branded stuff so think i need to sling it on eBay. Who actually needs 15 pairs of tracksuit bottoms and 35 t-shirts:confused::rotfl:

Will post over weekend with progress.

OH is the same so getting him involved too! I WANT A CAPSULE WARDROBE!

  • Welcome hockeyduo, if you want a capsule then YOU SHALL HAVE ONE:j

    Keep us posted;)

Well i've just cleared my three boys wardrobes and it was bloomin hard work!!! Have 3 binliners for the charity shop and one bin bag in the bin(stained torn stuff) Also gave it a good hoovering and wipe out, then did the same with their sock and underwear drawers. Made a list (i like lists:o) of their gaps. I have left them with

    2 tracksuits (1 oldish, 1 good)
7 t-shirts (couple of them footy tops)
    3 pairs of shorts
    1 pair of jeans
    1 smartish shirt
    2 sweatshirts
    1 old trainers/ 1 new pair
    7 pairs of boxys
    10 pairs of sox
    3 'bed' t-shirts/pajamas
And of course their school uniform and eldest son's air cadet stuff.

I am well pleased with this, hope it will be easier to keep tidier:rolleyes:

DH wardrobe is next, then my make up. Me and dd's wardrobes are perfect so don't need to do them, thank god!!

    Love Sharron

Wow there's just no stopping you Sharon:T I bet you feel all refreshed and in control That is a manageable amount of clothes.

My girls have way too many t-shirts, about 25 between the pair of them but they do wear them all but it's even getting too hot now for all the short sleeved ones that my mum bought them for the summer but I am trying to hold back from buying more i.e thin strapped ones as I want them to get wear out of what they have.

    Hi there!

Hockeyduo...welcome to the club! Do let us know how you get on with your sort-out. I can't tell you what a difference it feels to look in my wardrobe this week and know that everything in there should be there; it's a cathartic experience to be sure!

Sharron , you've been busy today!! Will make life easier, I'm sure. Will the boys notice?

I've been gap filling today! Bought some shorts for hols and also some new white cropped pants. Although I kept the Monsoon ones I had, they were a size too big and not doing me any favours. Bought some in Wallis today.
debating whether to take the others on hols. They are loose and comfy, but look sloppy and don't do my weight loss justice. The vain part of me says chuck them, the sensible part says they'll be nice and cool and who cares anyway! What a dilemma! Somebody tell me to throw them out please!
  • :rotfl:Throw them out :rotfl:

Although I know it is hard to part with clothes that neither fit or in my case actually look nice on, but you have been really inspiring with your threads about downsizing your wardrobe etc, so seeing as you have bought a similar pair from wallis, get rid of the ones from monsoon. Work on the mantra one in, one out. When I have finished get the rest of my wardrobes under control and then worked out what other items I will need to make my capsule wardrobe I am then going to try and work on that principle :D

Wash & iron them, take a couple of good photos and chuck them on Ebay.....they may even make enough to cover the cost of your new Wallis ones....

Well done on the shorts!!Did you get them in Wallis? As for the trousers, the loose ones, I would consider taking them for the hols. You might not have this problem but I tend to retain a bit of fluid in the heat and sometimes feel a bit more comfy in a size up especially when it gets really hot.

I'm loving this thread - I culled my wardrobe a few weeks ago got rid of stuff I hadn't worn since - know this as it was my last european holiday (now hooked on florida:rolleyes:) - thought I had done really well but don't think its quite a capsule wardrobe with 60+ items:p
Trying to be good lately and have just returned a dress that was a bit of an impulse buy and thought 'do I really need it?'
Am it a bit of a clearing out mood so might have another look and see if I can minimalise a bit more:D
