I have realised something I hadn't before whilst doing this - I don't have that much clothing even though it looks it. I'm still going through it now and really the bulk of it was in the 10 different coats and jackets I have that I won't be parting with (When you find a jacket that can do up on a 32F chest without swamping a 10-12 figure you tend to get quite attached to it because it will be an eon before you find something else like that!
).
However the reason that it LOOKS like I have too much clothing is because I have moved back home after Uni last year to look for work and I am using the bloody wardrobe I have had since I was 7 years old :rotfl:So at least I can stop feeling bad thinking I have too many clothes, I don't, I just don't have a grown-up size wardrobe!

I opened up one wardrobe this morning after taking kids to nursery, and just started crying.
The wardrobe consisted mainly of dresses and a few trouser suits, that I have acquired over the years for weddings/christenings/graduations etc and I do not think I will wear again. Quite a few still have tags on. I have a habit of buying things and then seeing other things and buying them too. Choosing something else to wear and then never taking the Some of them are too small and the ones that fit and look nice I really can't see myself wearing again as I have wore a few times and just think that I should start with a clean plate so to speak. Have no parties/weddings or the like coming up so far this year. It is just about being ruthless and getting them stuck on ebay or in a bag for the charity shop.0 -
Thanks for the advice Bronnie, I will have a look in m&s for a mac. I was going to by a neutral classic colour, but I will see whats on offer over the next few weeks. I also need a new handbag, Ive had loads of cheap bags, which I use for a couple of months and get fed up with (all gone in Carboot sale now) and a couple which Ive had for years and keep getting out again. So Im going to replace my cheap bag which is looking tatty, with something similar but in leather. I do like the idea of buying less, but looking for specific items. I am also going to adopt the 1 in, 1 out idea that I have seen mentioned by another poster (cant remember who).
I shudder to think how much Ive spent on unworn clothes over the years, it doesnt bare thinking about. My new mantra Less is More!!!!0 -
I wouldnt dare clear out my wardrobe. I would need a skip

Erm....have you looked at any of the fashion mags recently? If you're not quick getting those things out, you will have missed it!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Hi girls!
Sure you're all tucked up by now!!
Continuing the big sort-out;
.......blitzed the underwear....wasn't too bad as I had a big throwout of washed-out/worn-out stuff last year, however had a tangled drawful of stuff some rather nice bras that were from when I was a bit lighter. ATM they don't fit, but have another half stone to lose so am not going to chuck them just yet. They've been neatly folded with their matching nix into a plastic storage box (swiped from DD's bedroom while she's on holiday!) and put in the bottom of the wardrobe in spare room for now. Tights (don't wear very often) checked and put into some zippy pastic bags I had. Added new nix to my little notebook of things to look at on my shopping trips.
Dressing gowns, 2 pairs slippers, flip flops and trainers and toilet bag and make-up bags have all been chucked in washer. Make-up has been retrieved from all over the place and put into a shoe box for sorting asap.
Melgirl......some people are so rude. I had a similar experience years ago when I took a big bag of baby clothes my lovely and sadly departed mum had knitted. I had been feeling v sentimental about them, eventually kept a few and talked myself into donating the rest. The 2 old bags who accepted the donation were so rude, I wish I had grabbed the stuff back at the time and taken it somewhere else!
You just have to keep in mind the ultimate beneficiaries of your donation!
Plushroom...it sounds like one way or another progress is being made (10 coats though:rolleyes2!!!!! I've got 5!)
Lovetoshopforbargains...I'm trying to be really discplined about receipts now, so if something needs to go back, there's no excuse. Think shops are getting a bit stricter about their returns policies now too. i think it can be a bit of an emotional journey this wardrobe clearing bit too...there can be so much of your life in there and associations to be made with some of the clothes!
katie..."Less is More" :A is our perfect mantra!!
Lita .. Hi there:hello:..........you're lucky most stuff in your wardrobe fits!!
I think if you're happy with what you've got that's fine. I was really struggling to make what I had work for me , hence the clearout!
Anyway, keep posting!
Bed soon. Bye for now!

Thanks very much Bronnie
You are right it is an emotional journey, although I am being ruthless, and only put one black dress back in the wardrobe. Now have to sort out the pile of clothes that are left. Some fit and look nice but I am not going to wear them again so will go on ebay. Although never tried selling before, but paid a lot of money for them and a wee something back would be nice. Have another pile that don't fit and would like to get into but realistically not sure if that will happen any time soon so think I will get rid of rather than storing and then getting rid of later on if that makes sense.
Thanks for the support

...well done on your amazing clearout. Just wondering what special tricks you had to keep DH's interest through 34+ costume changes;)
Glad the thread has inspired you and thanks for posting your list ...to inspire others!
Hi Bronnie,
Well, It took 3 days for him to agree and that too on the condition that I change in front of him. As if he hasn't seen me before
Take care everyone and well done on the clearouts... :T0 -
Bronnie, your so right about it being an emotional journey, it's huge, probably why it took the best part of 2 years to get my wardrobe to the way it is today. Part of me thought it was being wasteful to not keep the clothes, a bit of a throw back to when i was a child when i only had 3 outfits ant anyone time. This stiffled me for years, hence the huge wardrobe that moved house with me twice. I remember the day when i finnally realised this. DH and i where decorating our bedroom, and the wardrobe couldn't be moved because of the weight, dh insisted i emptied it, whilst i was doing this dh remarked 'god you have issues' we laughed, but never was there s truer word spoken. He was right, my house is very minimilist (less to clean) and i am so onto clutter, yet my wardrobe was the complete opposite. It was very therapeutic to finnally be comfortable in my own skin ( no guilt with a wardrobe of clothes that don't fit)
Gillian, i'd say that if the clothes don't fit or are not sentimental, then get rid. If you decide at a later stage to loose the weight don't you deserve a new wardrobe???
Bron, my make-up is in need of a clearout so shall we do another thread??? My nightwear and underwear needs a complete overhall too.
SharronSometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0 -
Thanks Sharon
You should come to my house and help me :rotfl:
I like the idea of another new thread about make up, as I have loads of make up and I don't really wear any unless I have a night out. I am always unsure if I should throw it out as it is probably more than 6 months old? It is not overly expensive stuff (it is boots no7) but it is expensive to be just thrown away having only used once or twice, but maybe I should get rid of it while I am in this clear out frame of mind
Thanks again0
