Good luck for those doing the Leeds 10K tomorrow :) I hope the new parkrun was good as well.

I've been out and done 5.2m today. Not a true long run by any stretch but it kept the legs ticking over and was a convenient figure of eight to run around. Did it in 00:55:46 (10:44/mile pace). Which is not quite as slow as suggested by becky but I did the fourth mile at about 10:20 pace to test if I could speed up a bit (relative to the rest of the run), and it also felt OK at that pace. Slowed back down after that though. I certainly felt happier with it than most of the runs last week though I could feel my legs throughout. Getting there... :j

Total for the week = 21.6 miles

A very interesting, and rather wet:p, morning!!

Around 35-40 runners turned out for the first running of the Heaton Park Parkrun. Although impressions from descriptions of the course suggested it was flat I'm sure glad that we had a reccy of the course beforehand as there was some tough climbing to be done.

As the race settled down I managed to get into 3rd position with two runners quite well out in the lead. But the knowledge of what was to come helped no end and the gap started to close slowly but surely. 2nd place after about 2km at which point I was more than happy to settle there and accept the highest finishing position yet. But after 4km I started to get an urge to push a bit harder and have a real crack at the leader and, hey presto, I got there with a bit of time to spare.:D:D

Of course I'm chuffed with the race victory (who wouldn't be;)) but I was more impressed with the way it felt and the strength towards the end.

Becky had a run out on the reccy of the course but felt it was asking a bit too much too quickly to actually do the race, which I think was the right decision.

Well done, Krider - sounds like you got that one just about right to let your recovery keep progressing.:D

Its alright Uk - I had a crack at the hill and gave up due to chest soreness

I think a run would help because the blood flow will help the waste products disperse :D

What's the best thing to eat the night before a race?

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Hi Linda - 10k is a speed event so nothing too heavy like meat or malt loaf :p

Tuna salad, potatoes or something like is good - no brekkie in the morning if the race is first thing - take a banana for afters :D

    Good luck!
