Sorry Becky and Uk; I didn't mean to butt in.
What's the route for the Blackpool 1/2 like? Is it nice and flat or a bit hilly?2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

What a pleasant way to start the day - warm morning sun, slight breeze and [STRIKE]pongy cow muck[/STRIKE] the smells of the countryside!:D:D
Simply - I think you're getting the hang of the steady start, it makes training a helluva lot easier but keep the secret to yourself.;)
As for Blackpool, it will be a completely different course to this year and will go out north towards Fleetwood, details still to be finalised but, yes, it will be flat - there's no hills anywhere near!
UK - By the time Bristol comes around you wont be fazed by 6:52/mile!!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

No, this helps very much as gives me the idea where im heading in newcastle. Not really very clear on the GNR site to where the start area is, but from google maps i guess where it will be.
Now the hotel planning starts, its funny that all the local areas are expensive for accomodation and it appears that its 20mins from Durham to Newcastle on a sunday morning on the train, and is £5.60 return for an adult.
Therefore we might find ourselves driving to durham, staying overnight, catching first train into newcastle with the wife firing off to southshields slow time.
Thats unless i can find a field to camp in..0 -

If you're prepared to camp then go to South Shields, lots of space to pitch a tent. Then leave the car there and get the metro from South Shields into Newcastle.
Its the easiest way to arrange things because driving from Newcastle to South Shields on the day is not easy with the main roads all closed off!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

^^
The plan was to not take the car anywhere near newcastle, and leave it within the region of the A1(M) area to head back down to lincolnshire.
Options were sunderland, durham or a small hotel up near the airport.0 -

Becky is right with the important points being:
1. You wont improve without getting tired - all the feelings that beginners see as negative such as heavy legs, overall tiredness, lack of enthusiasm to run etc are seen by experienced runners as positives. All those feelings mean that improvement is on the way.
2. To recover in the quickest time - rest completely.
3. To recover sensibly - ease back on effort levels and let the muscles and energy come back slowly. But keep training at an appropriate level.
4. Dont leave your best efforts in training - save them for races.
So to answer your question, keep running but do slow 4 milers until the muscles come back - if thats 12 minute miling thats fine.
Rich Thats why I feel tired then??
As I said in previous a previous post, last I got out this week was Tuesday night and I did my normal 3.7 miler but it was around 2 mins slower than the previous!!
I was meaning to get out last night again but still to tired I will hopefully get out at the weekend maybe try the 4.5 miler I am hoping to do!
This will give me a good indication as to my 10k prep!!0 -

It might be a bit daft taking your car to Newcastle but there's no problem with taking it to South Shields...then it's there waiting for you when you finish!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Just kidding. go with what Rich says.. or just be on one of the main Rail routes... Durham, Sunderland Darlington you could even push it out to York.. or maybe the local lines which includes Hartlepool Chester-le-street or maybe even the exotic Middlesbrough / Stockton LOL..
