    Morning All!

Was very very tired today...but managed the 10k nonetheless. Tried to run it as slowly as possible so I didnt break out into a sweat - definite jogging today :o
    Mon - 1 mile intervals 7:54 avg, 2 miles warm up/down - 5 miles
    Tues - 4 mile tempo run in 34:37 8:39 mins/mile
    Weds - 10k in 69:07 11:09mins/mile

Wow you lot can chat after I go to bed :p

Simply you will be tired now but the tapering will put a nice spring in your step I promise :D
  • Sounds like a recovery run to me!:D:D

  • Very interesting reading re notes taken at a conference in Scotland on East African running:
"If you have not heard of hyponatremia, look it up, it’s fairly
    important!
Tim Noakes next book is looking at water-intoxication and considers it a scandal the way the sports drinks companies have marketed their products and are contributing to deaths during races. Drinking too much water can kill you, not drinking enough and getting dehydrated won’t!
Any deaths during races (related to drinking water), all relate to drinking too much. He has documented 12 deaths and 1700 hospitalisations due to this. His studies show that water intoxication is due to fluid overload not sodium loss."
"The body is designed to go into dehydration then recover. The main advice is to not anticipate thirst but drink to your thirst. He is finding it almost impossible to get his evidence published, due to the power and influence of the big sports drinks companies."

Some more inetersting stuff is contained here:

I am sure its very good research and very interesting but I absolutely have to disagree with this statement in bold - his research will be double blind peer reviewed and startling discoveries actually are more likely to get published - JISSN might be a good choice for publication:

No worrys Rich most the events seems to give you cups now anyway.

which leads to 3 drops in your mouth.. 1/3 accross your top... 2/5 up your nose... and the rest lands about your nether region. make you look like a fool!!!

  • Interesting - maybe you could email Tim Noakes with that suggestion?

It would be good to see his findings because it does fit with my own experience of minimal drinking being more effective than loading up.

Yeah if I drink too much I get a stitch - its horrible - I just chuck most of it over myself instead - although I still prefer the bottles - great for getting water on the thighs when they are tired and you can carry them for a bit if you arent thirsty when the water station comes around :D

I'm sure he knows about which journal to pick...he is a published scientist after all! I would like to see his data though...

I thought that was just me Uk :rotfl:After I've slurped a few drops I tend to splash what hasn't gone up my nose over my face to cool myself down.

That was a good slow run Becky; was it difficult to keep to a slow pace or did you get into a rhythm and stay there?
